Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the August 28 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

This week, visited the mailboxes to check out new recordings that have arrived in recent weeks. We debuted plenty of new songs, including numbers from Making State, Gene The Werewolf, Bree Gearhart, Chris Vipond & the Stanley Street Band, Hannah Richardson, the Ethan Jano Band, Wings For Armor, Prime 8, The Hidden Agendas and Afraid Of Human. We also updated "Local Music News," dug a 2003 number by Sound Driven from the archive for this week's "Local Music Flashback," stepped "Across State Lines" to hear a song by Maine-based indie rockers Seepeoples, and reviewed Sourmash's First Shot EP in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

In Local Music News...

The fifth annual Striking Chords Against Cancer benefit for the American Cancer Society will take place next month at Altoona's Railroaders Museum. The date for this year's event will be Friday evening, September 9. The event begins at 5 p.m., and will feature performances from Matt Pletcher, No Angels, Dave Villani & Steve Oswalt, Flight 19, The Hitchhikers, The Chrome Hearts, Drew Dodson and This Albatross. Tickets will be $10 per person and can be purchased in advance or at the gate.

The fourth annual Northern Appalachian Folk Festival will take place next month in downtown Indiana. The free music and art event will take place from Friday evening, September 9 through Sunday, September 11, and will feature a variety of art, workshops, food and more, plus musical entertainment on two stages. Friday's performers include Rosie & the Jammers and The Stickers. Saturday's lineup includes Ray Owen, Marv Ashby & High Octane, Tom Breiding, Dar Williams, Jayke Orvis and Southern Culture On The Skids. And Sunday's performers include Diablo Dimes, Jakobs Ferry Stragglers, Left-Lane Cruiser and The Jaggerz. For more information about the festival, visit the website http://northernappfolkfest.org.

Harrisburg's Take 147 is returning to action for one show after retiring several months ago. The group will perform on October 28 at Tubby's in Duncannon.
