Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the September 11 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

This week, more exploration of our mailboxes to check out new recordings that have arrived in recent weeks...we introduced plenty of new tunes. We featured new songs from Black Cat Moan, Chrome Moses, Nick Stahlman, Raven and the Wren, the Dana Gaynor Band, Jakobs Ferry Stragglers, Fighting For James, Spacefish and Behind the Grey. We also updated "Local Music News," dug a 1996 number from State College's Bluesuedegroove from the archive for this week's "Local Music Flashback," stepped "Across State Lines" to hear a new song by North Carolina-based favorites Southern Culture On The Skids, and reviewed Horehound's self-titled CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

NOBODY'S HEROES - "Scratch My Name on the World"
THE HAWKEYES - "Hours and Miles"
BLACK CAT MOAN - "Medicine Man"
SHANNON & THE MERGER - "Aim to Misbehave"
CHROME MOSES - "Can You Hear Me Coming"
CHRIS BELL - "Whole Lotta Whiskey"
NICK STAHLMAN - "At the Bottom"
RAVEN AND THE WREN - "I Am Evil"
JIMMY ADLER - "Knockin' At My Screendoor"
DANA GAYNOR BAND - "Road to Oblivion"
JAKOBS FERRY STRAGGLERS - "Blue Diamond Mines"

HOUR TWO:

SMALL TOWN TITANS - "The End of the World"
SMALL TOWN HORROR SHOW - "Let It Go"
FIGHTING FOR JAMES - "Perfect Life"
HOREHOUND - "The Dead Don't Lie"
SPACEFISH - "Creature"
BLUESUEDEGROOVE - "When We Were Young" (1996, Local Music Flashback)
SOUTHERN CULTURE ON THE SKIDS - "Grey Skies" (Across State Lines)
THE SEMI-SUPERVILLAINS - "Shivers"
BEHIND THE GREY - "Black"
IT IS WRITTEN - "Lambs to the Slaughter"

We keep up with the mailboxes again next week, investigating new recordings that have arrived in recent weeks, and providing more new tracks for you! Along the way, we will update "Local Music News," dig out a "Local Music Flashback" from the archive and step "Across State Lines" to hear a song from an independent band or artist from outside the state.

Upcoming guests and specials include:

SEPT. 25 - The Chrome Hearts
OCT. 16 - Derek Woods Band
OCT. 30 - Halloween Special
NOV. 13 - Patched Together (preview)

(All dates are subject to changes as circumstances warrant.)

Bands and artists interested in having music aired on the show are invited to send their broadcast-quality recordings to: Magnum Broadcasting, 315 South Atherton Street, State College, PA 16801; ATTN: Jim Price/Homegrown. Or drop the recordings off at the station during regular business hours, Monday-Friday 9 AM – 5 PM. You can also email digital song files or inquiries about the show to homegrownrocker@gmail.com.

In Local Music News...

Area country/pop group Blossom Hollow has a new guitar player. Former Pistol Peg & the Beer Kegs guitarist Joe Scott has joined the group, replacing Matt Sheedy.

Williamsport-based alternative/progressive rockers The Hidden Agendas have announced they are disbanding, effective immediately. The group thanks their fans for the support, and will issue a free downloadable edition of their swan song EP, Leviathan of Love, as soon as artwork for the recording is available. That recording will be available on the group's website and Bandcamp pages.

Again, a reminder that Our Community Cares presents its third annual Fall Festival next weekend at Captain Jack Lions Park in Mill Creek, Huntingdon County. Live music happens on Sunday, with featured entertainers including award-winning Elvis tribute artist Jeff Krick, Miss Supermodels Unlimited 2016 Typhani Janelle Russo, country recording artist Elaini Arthur, an amateur music talent contest and more. Admission to that event is free.

And if you missed Simple Gifts' annual Greenwood Furnace Folk Gathering event this month, the group will be visiting and performing at Penn State Altoona later in September. The group will offer two free performances at both the campus' downtown Altoona and Ivyside locations on Tuesday, September 20. They will perform a lunchtime set at noon in Rossman Park outside the Sheetz Center for Entrepreneurial Excellence in downtown, and then perform a suppertime set at 5:30 p.m. at the Ivyside campus' Port Sky Cafe. The public is welcome to attend both presentations.
