Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the January 29 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

This week, in honor of area musician Josh Gallagher's recent successful run on NBC-TV's popular talent search program The Voice (where he finished fourth on the final episode), we presented the "Made It to the Majors" Special. On this edition, we spotlighted Pennsylvania bands and musicians who achieved the milestone of signing a national recording deal or otherwise achieving the national/international spotlight (such as Josh's run on The Voice). We heard music from names that have gone on to become highly successful on the national/international stage, such as Halestorm, Breaking Benjamin and Live; and we also checked out some names whose time in the majors was brief, and who didn't achieve superstar status. Along the way, we reviewed Next to None's A Light in the Dark CD in "The Professor's CD Corner."

Here is this week's playlist (with year of song in parentheses):

HOUR ONE:

THE BADLEES - "Fear of Falling" (1995)
THE CLARKS - "Shimmy Low" (2004)
JOSH GALLAGHER - "Pick Any Small Town" (2016)
DAKOTA - "Runaway" (1984)
THE GRANATI BROS. - "No Stone Unturned" (1979)
IRON CITY HOUSEROCKERS - "Hideaway" (1979)
HALESTORM - "Mayhem" (2015)
BREAKING BENJAMIN - "The Diary of Jane" (2006)
RAGING SLAB - "Bent for Silver" (1989)
FUEL - "Jesus or a Gun" (1998)
EDISON - "He Player" (1997)

HOUR TWO:

LIVE - "Lakini's Juice" (1997)
CROBOT - "Legend of the Spaceborn Killer" (2012)
CANDLELIGHT RED - "Demons" (2013)
NEXT TO NONE - "Runaway" (2015)
THE SHARKS - "Only Time Will Tell" (1986)
THE HOOTERS - "Where Do the Children Go" (1985)
TODD RUNDGREN - "Couldn't I Just Tell You" (1972)
DIAMOND REO - "Lover Boy" (1976)
DONNIE IRIS - "Love Is Like a Rock" (1981)
B.E. TAYLOR GROUP - "Vitamin L" (1983)
THE SILENCERS - "Peter Gunn Theme" (1979)

Our next program pits us directly against the perennially biggest television sporting event of the year, the Super Bowl. So while the New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons tangle in Super Bowl LI, we will counter the same way we do every year - by saluting the women of the local and regional music scene with the annual "Ladies of Local Music" Special! We will spotlight the women who create songs, sing, play guitars, basses, keys, drums and more on the area music scene! Along the way, we will dig into the archive for a lady-fueled "Local Music Flashback," and review The Crew Of The Half Moon's Blanket Fort Radio CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!" So thanks in advance if you choose the "Homegrown Rocker" over the big game, or even just turn down the Super Bowl sound on the television and crank up the "Rocker!"

Upcoming guests and specials include:

MAR. 5 - Millennium Music Conference Recap
MAR. 12 - Millennium Drawing Winner (to be announced)

(All dates are subject to changes as circumstances warrant.)
