Here is the recap of the May 6 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.
This week, we spoke with guests Randy Wilson and Zac Grace, organizers of the annual "Day of Rock" benefit concert, which happens on June 16 at Altoona's Railroaders Museum to benefit the Altoona Chapter of Because We Care Therapy Services. During our discussion, recorded at McGarvey's in Altoona, Randy and Zac gave us the lowdown on this year's event, and we featured music by some of the participating bands and artists who will perform that day. Along the way, we debuted new songs from Late Last Nite, Black Ridge PABG and Negan, updated "Local Music News," dug out a 2007 tune by Zac's former band, Fayted, for this week's "Local Music Flashback," and stepped "Across State Lines" to hear music from Baltimore's Deaf Scene!

The area music scene is mourning the loss of a longtime member with the passing of Ken Earnest last Saturday, April 28, at age 88. Ken was a longtime musician and guitar teacher, and played in such area bands as The Legends, The Cavaliers, The Prime Time Band and more. He was also the father of area musicians Troy and Jody Earnest. We at the "Homegrown Rocker" extend our condolences to the Earnest family, friends and the music community.
