Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the September 9 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

Guests joined us in the studio this week, as Whiskey Pie shared their music and world with us! We met the band members and learned their story, discussed their music and career, and featured songs from their debut album, Lifestyles of the Poor & Lonely! They also brought instruments and did a couple of songs for us live! Along the way, we debuted new songs from One of the Bigs and Chris Sutton & Charlie Barath, updated "Local Music News," dug a 1974 song by The Rounds Brothers Band from the archive for a "Local Music Flashback," and reviewed Rodeo Serenade's American Roots CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

DOUG IRWIN - "Rattle the Cage"
DYLAN E. MILLER - "Favorite Distraction"
WHISKEY PIE - "Lifestyles of the Poor and Lonely"
ONE OF THE BIGS - "Seasons"
WHISKEY PIE - "Pines"
CHRIS SUTTON & CHARLIE BARATH - "Ballad of John Hardy"
WHISKEY PIE - "The Ode to Jesse Custer" (performed live on the air)
WINGS THAT BUZZ - "I'll Just Wait for the Sun"

HOUR TWO:

MOLLICK-CARLIN BAND - "Dimestore Revolution"
NAG CHAMPIONS MYSTERY BAND - "Stone Hymns"
WHISKEY PIE - "Business as Usual"
RODEO SERENADE - "Blue Moon of Kentucky/That's Alright"
WHISKEY PIE - "Kelly Anne"
THE ROUNDS BROTHERS BAND - "Mechanical Man" (1974, Local Music Flashback)
WHISKEY PIE - "(I'm Not Your) Stepping Stone" (performed live on the air)
MAMA CORN - "In the High Rise"

We'll be digging into the mailboxes again on our next program, checking out new recordings that have arrived in recent weeks. Along the way, we will dig a "Local Music Flashback" from the archive, step "Across State Lines" to hear music from an independent band or artist from outside of Pennsylvania, and review The Lampshades' Astrology CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Upcoming guests and specials include:

SEPT. 23 - On The Brink
SEPT. 30 - Gordon Tittsworth (Images Of Eden)
OCT. 7 - The Chrome Hearts
OCT. 28 - Halloween Special
NOV. 25 - 20th Anniversary Special (rebroadcast)

(All dates are subject to changes as circumstances warrant.)

Bands and artists wanting to submit news items for "Local Music News" may email their news to homegrownrocker@gmail.com. Indicate "MUSIC NEWS" in the subject heading!

Bands and artists interested in having music aired on the show are invited to send their broadcast-quality recordings to: Magnum Broadcasting, 315 South Atherton Street, State College, PA 16801; ATTN: Jim Price/Homegrown. Or drop the recordings off at the station during regular business hours, Monday-Friday 9 AM to 5 PM. You can also email digital song files or inquiries about the show to homegrownrocker@gmail.com.

In Local Music News...

A special art and music event will take place in downtown Altoona later this month. The "Cre-814 Launch Event" will take place at downtown Altoona's Heritage Plaza on Saturday, September 22 from 1 to 9 p.m. The event will feature an assortment of artists, crafters, food and other vendors, plus three stages of musical entertainment. Admission to the event is free.

More previously unreleased song material from Centre Hall rockers Nitro is being released. The album Do Ya Wanna Rock: Rarities 83-87 will officially be released by British reissue record label Prog AOR Records on September 18, as part of the label's Diamond Roxx Series.

A member of longtime Pennsylvania hard rockers Harpo is on the mend. Singer and keyboard player John "Lloyd" Kistner is recovering from a stroke he suffered on August 9. He is currently undergoing impatient rehabilitation at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, and is reportedly making good progress in his recovery. We at the "Homegrown Rocker" wish 'Lloyd' and quick and complete recovery.
