Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the November 11 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

We revisited the mailboxes this week to explore some new local and regional recordings that have arrived recently. We debuted new tunes from the Derek Woods Band, Idle Kyle, Bad Economy, Jeff Fetterman, StarSkream, Oceans to Ash and Haven State. We also updated "Local Music News," dug a 2008 track by Coilcell from the archive for a "Local Music Flashback," stepped "Across State Lines" to feature new music from New Jersey's New Day Dawn, and reviewed Shane Speal & the Snakes Stay Primal CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

THE CREW OF THE HALF MOON - "U-235"
DYLAN MILLER - "Favorite Distraction"
DEREK WOODS BAND - "Nothing Rhymes with Orange"
THE ROOF - "Kindled"
IDLE KYLE - "Sweet Taste"
THE COMMONHEART - "Cannonball"
THE EVERGREENS - "Both Sides of the Bed"
TUKURPA - "Sacrifice"
BAD ECONOMY - "Divergents"
WHISKEY PIE - "Lifestyles of the Poor and Lonely"

HOUR TWO:

PATCHED TOGETHER ALL-STARS - "Patched Together"
WINE OF NAILS - "Fit Right In"
JEFF FETTERMAN - "Something Just Ain't Right"
SHANE SPEAL & THE SNAKES - "Miss Treater"
STARSKREAM - "Gold"
COILCELL - "Labyrinth" (2008, Local Music Flashback)
NEW DAY DAWN - "The Fight" (Across State Lines)
FROM ASHES TO NEW - "Crazy"
OCEANS TO ASH - "Control Mechanism"
IMAGES OF EDEN - "Once We Believed"
HAVEN STATE - "Dead Dog"

We were originally scheduled to have musical guests on our next program, but the logistics didn't work out to hook up for our interview, so that appearance has been postponed. So instead, we will continue to rummage in our mailboxes to check out new recordings that have arrived recently. This means we will debut more new tunes on the show! We'll also update "Local Music News," dig a "Local Music Flashback" from the archive, and step "Across State Lines" to hear music from an out-of-state independent band or artist!

Upcoming guests and specials include:

NOV. 25 - 20TH ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL (rebroadcast)
DEC. 2 - DEADSIDE
DEC. 9 - LORDS A LEAPING
DEC. 16 - BO MOORE (A Christmas in Johnstown Vol. II)
DEC. 23 - CHRISTMAS SPECIAL
DEC. 30 - YEAR-END SPECIAL

(All dates are subject to changes as circumstances warrant.)

Bands and artists wanting to submit news items for "Local Music News" may email their news to homegrownrocker@gmail.com. Indicate "MUSIC NEWS" in the subject heading!

Bands and artists interested in having music aired on the show are invited to send their broadcast-quality recordings to: Magnum Broadcasting, 315 South Atherton Street, State College, PA 16801; ATTN: Jim Price/Homegrown. Or drop the recordings off at the station during regular business hours, Monday-Friday 9 AM to 5 PM. You can also email digital song files or inquiries about the show to homegrownrocker@gmail.com.

In Local Music News...

A special bluegrass memorial show will take place on Thanksgiving weekend in Lock Haven. The "Bluegrass Hearts from Heaven" benefit will take place on Saturday evening, November 24, from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Lock Haven Elks. The show will be in memory of Nancy Harlan Kodish, who lost her life from injuries suffered in an auto accident while returning home from the annual Smoked Country Jam Bluegrass Festival in June. The concert will feature performances from Mama Corn, the Jakob's Ferry Stragglers, Bug Tussle and The Renegade Ramblers. Tickets will be $20 per person, with proceeds going to the Kodish family. There will also be a basket auction, food and refreshments.

Altoona's Walkney has issued a debut EP. The five-song EP, called Oh No, is now available for purchase through iTunes. Walkney's next performance is December 16 at a venue in New Jersey.
