Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the November 18 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

We kept it in the mailboxes again this week, and checked out more new recordings that have arrived recently. We debuted several new tunes, including numbers from The Clarks, Coleman Rigg, Badluxe, Jeff Fetterman, Jakob Vladimir and Deadside. We also updated "Local Music News," dug a 1996 track by The Axis Y from the archive for a "Local Music Flashback," and stepped "Across State Lines" to feature new music from Oneonta, New York's Baked Potatoes!

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

SKELL - "Everything's Fine"
SILVER SCREEN - "Labelled Off"
NEGAN - "Where Do We Go From Here"
DRAGLINE - "Rock n Roll Machine"
THE CLARKS - "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love and Understanding"
13 SAINTS - "New York Doll"
PURE CANE SUGAR - "Box N'Nails"
CHUCK OWSTON - "Wilmerding Blues"
COLEMAN RIGGS - "Block"
RODEO SERENADE - "Gotta Lotta Rhythm"
BADLUXE - "Ribcage Xylophone"

HOUR TWO:

SHANE SPEAL & THE SNAKE OIL BAND - "49 Years"
JUKEHOUSE BOMBERS - "Rooster Gets to Crowin'"
MEDUSA'S DISCO - "State of Mind"
JEFF FETTERMAN - "Brand New Day"
JAKOB VLADIMIR - "Death Wish"
THE AXIS Y - "When the Mirror Lies" (1996, Local Music Flashback)
BAKED POTATOES - "Unity" (Across State Lines)
INSIDE OUT - "Giving Myself Away"
DEADSIDE - "Screamin' Hollerin' Bitchin'"
NAILDRIVER - "Enemy"

For our next program during Thanksgiving weekend, we will feature an encore rebroadcast of the "Homegrown Rocker" 20th Anniversary Special! This program marked 20 years on the air back in March; due to technical issues with our online streaming back then, many listeners did not get the chance to hear the special during its first airing, thus we are presenting it again this week! Hear live tunes and footage from guests who have appeared on the program during its first two decades, as well as some of the more popular tunes and curios that have aired on the "Homegrown Rocker" over the years! An encore presentation of the "Homegrown Rocker" 20th Anniversary Special for our next program!

Upcoming guests and specials include:

NOV. 25 - 20TH ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL (rebroadcast)
DEC. 2 - DEADSIDE
DEC. 9 - LORDS A LEAPING
DEC. 16 - BO MOORE (A Christmas in Johnstown Vol. II)
DEC. 23 - CHRISTMAS SPECIAL
DEC. 30 - YEAR-END SPECIAL

(All dates are subject to changes as circumstances warrant.)

Bands and artists wanting to submit news items for "Local Music News" may email their news to homegrownrocker@gmail.com. Indicate "MUSIC NEWS" in the subject heading!

Bands and artists interested in having music aired on the show are invited to send their broadcast-quality recordings to: Magnum Broadcasting, 315 South Atherton Street, State College, PA 16801; ATTN: Jim Price/Homegrown. Or drop the recordings off at the station during regular business hours, Monday-Friday 9 AM to 5 PM. You can also email digital song files or inquiries about the show to homegrownrocker@gmail.com.

In Local Music News...

For the second year in a row, the Johnstown area music scene is issuing a special holiday season compilation album. Following the success of the first compilation, A Johnstown Christmas, last year, the organizers and the Johnstown Tribune-Democrat newspaper are issuing a sequel. A Johnstown Christmas Volume II is being issued this holiday season, with a special CD release show happening on Saturday evening at BottleWorks in Johnstown. The new CD will feature another Christmas song donated by former NBC "The Voice" finalist Josh Gallagher, as well as Christmas favorites and holiday-themed originals from The Moore Brothers Band, Smooth Sound, Jazz In Your Face, Walt & Jackie, The Mutual Fun Society and more. Organizer Bo Moore will be a guest on the December 16 edition of the "Homegrown Rocker" to discuss the CD.

A popular longtime Pittsburgh coffeehouse is closing its doors after 28 years. The Beehive Coffeehouse in Pittsburgh's South Side is going out of business by year's end, and is featuring a week of special events through November 25 to help close out the venue. Opening in 1991, The Beehive was one of the first coffeehouses in Pittsburgh, and served as a refuge for local artists and musicians, and a place for local youth to enjoy. The Beehive's building going up for sale plus increased coffeehouse competition over the years both led to the decision to close.

And Johnstown heavy metal rockers Darkness On The Radio are set to issue their first CD. A five-song EP, New Murders, Old Crows is being officially christened during a show on November 24 at the Castle Pub in Ebensburg, featuring Darkness On The Radio plus guests Ben Dumm & the East Side Band and One Adam 12.
