Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the December 2 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

We again visited the mailboxes to check out new local and regional recordings that have arrived lately. We debuted new tunes from Bryan Fazio, Steve Treado, the Sharon Lia Band, Matt Wheeler & Vintage Heart, Empire in Decline, Shane Speal & the Snakes, One Adam 12, Darkness On The Radio and The Snipped. We also updated "Local Music News," dug a 1997 track by Johnstown's Further Gone from the archive for a "Local Music Flashback," and stepped "Across State Lines" to feature new music from Illinois-based singer and songwriter Ryan Pleckham!

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

LORDS A LEAPING - "Bells of Christmas"
ZACH WADE & THE GOOD GRIEF - "I'll Survive"

DARKNESS ON THE RADIO - "Judas Take the Wheel"
DEADSIDE - "Ticking Time Bomb"
THE SNIPPED - "Bus"

Our next three programs will usher in the holiday season. Our next show will feature special guest John Cimino, who will update us on area holiday music collaborative project Lords A Leaping. Lords A Leaping has started work on their long-awaited fourth album, which should be completed by next holiday season; John will give us the lowdown on the project, and we will air some of the new songs in the works for that album! Along the way, we will dig into the archive for a "Local Music Flashback," and review Jeff Fetterman's 9 Miles to Nowhere CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Upcoming guests and specials include:

DEC. 16 - BO MOORE (A Christmas in Johnstown Vol. II)
DEC. 23 - CHRISTMAS SPECIAL
DEC. 30 - YEAR-END SPECIAL
JAN. 13 - DEADSIDE

(All dates are subject to changes as circumstances warrant.)

In Local Music News...

Pittsburgh-based indie rockers The Lampshades have gone on indefinite hiatus. The group, which originally formed in southern Blair County, issued their latest album, Astrology, earlier this year. Singer and guitarist Jaren Love will continue to perform songs from that album as a solo performer, and will be accompanied by Sam Winward on piano and drums. Jaren is organizing a new band project.

The area music and arts scene were impacted by the passings of several members in recent days. The Altoona arts scene mourned the loss of Steven Helsel on Thanksgiving Day. The operations manager of Altoona Community Theatre (ACT), Steven died at age 63 following a brief illness. Steven was a driving force behind ACT as well as the local arts community, was involved in scheduling, public relations and fundraising for ACT, and directed and acted in local theatre as well. He was also involved in organizing the annual Rails and Ales fundraiser for ACT.

Johnstown area musician Steve Forgas passed away unexpectedly on November 20 at his home at age 46. Steve played on area stages for more than two decades; he sang, played guitar and keys, and was a member of several Johnstown area bands over the years, including Ribbon Grass and Blue Collar Fate.

And Dave Vernot, former drummer for Indiana-based blues rockers The Jukehouse Bombers, died on November 27 from injuries suffered in a construction-related accident in Ohio. He was 52.

We at the "Homegrown Rocker" express our deepest sympathies to the families, friends and colleagues of all three men.
