Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the April 14 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

This week, we revisited the mailboxes to check out new local and regional recordings that have arrived in recent weeks. We debuted lots of new music, including tunes from Nate Gates, Katie Hunter, Prairie Dogma, Dan Stonerook, The Random Hubiak, The Vics, Nearly York, Drew Bentley, Wrath of Typhon and 9 Stitch Method. We also updated "Local Music News," dug a 1993 tune by State College's The Boxing Oscars from the archive for a "Local Music Flashback," and stepped "Across State Lines" to hear music from Buffalo, New York's Aqueous!

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

ONE ADAM 12 - "Bulletproof"
POST TRAUMATIK - "3rd Rock"
NATE GATES - "Long As I Got a Window"
TED McCLOSKEY & MOLLY COUNTERMINE - "Hungry Ghost"
KATIE HUNTER - "Petal By Petal"
SHALOM DUBAS - "Lights"
PRAIRIE DOGMA - "Keep It Simple"
DAN STONEROOK - "Lightning at Night"
THE RANDOM HUBIAK - "Vapor Trails"
KALI MA AND THE GARLAND OF ARMS - "Last Rites"

HOUR TWO:

MARSHMELLOW OVERCOAT - "Smoke Screen"
THE VICS - "Fourth and Clay"
JOHN VENTO - "Only Love Stays Alive"
NEARLY YORK - "Stuck in These Ways"
BOXING OSCARS - "My Little One" (1993, Local Music Flashback)

DREW BENTLEY - "Bold Horizon"
WRATH OF TYPHON - "Extinction of Possibilities"
HATE GRENADE - "Critical"
9 STITCH METHOD - "Distance"
SAMARA - "False Identity"

For our next program, we introduce a new special celebrating acoustic and unplugged music from the area music scene. The "Wood-n-Strings" special will showcase the acoustic side of the local and regional music scene, as we hear acoustic rock, pop, folk, blues, country, alternative and more! We will update "Local Music News" along the way, dig an acoustic-geared "Local Music Flashback" from the archive, and review not one, but TWO CD's in "The Professor's CD Corner" - John Vento's Love, Lust & Other Wreckage CD during the first hour, and Chuck Owston's Blue Steel Blues during the second hour! Listen to the "Homegrown Rocker," Sunday night (April 14) at 8 p.m. on 105.9 Qwik-Rock on your FM radio dial, or stream it live online at www.1059qwikrock.com!

Upcoming guests and specials include:

In Local Music News...

Altoona native Jimmy Mowery took another step forward this past week in his run on the current season of NBC Television’s talent show “The Voice,” although not without a bit of drama. During the program that aired on April 8, Jimmy faced off with cross battle opponent Kalvin Jarvis from Arizona. When it came down to their coach, Adam Levine, choosing one of the two to move on, Levine went with Jarvis. Almost immediately, another coach, John Legend, “stole” Jimmy to become part of his team and continue on in the competition.

Indiana County rockers Black Ridge have announced the addition of a new sax player, as Tony Lassick joins the group.
