Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the May 12 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

Again this week, we spoke with a guest on the program, as we finally were finally able to hook up with Long Island, New York-based singer, songwriter and performer Chelsea Takami (www.chelseatakami.com)! Chelsea first won her appearance on the program when her download card was drawn from the show's dropbox during February's Millennium Music Conference in Harrisburg. But voice problems prevented her from appearing on her first scheduled appearance on the show last month; with her voice now back at full strength, she joined us on this week's show! We learned Chelsea's story and discussed her career and music, and we aired songs from her debut EP, Heart Wide Open, as well as a brand new, yet-to-be-released song exclusive! Along the way, we debuted a new tune from Fabienne Rothkrug, updated "Local Music News," dug a 2005 number by Altoona's Mudbone from the archive for our "Local Music Flashback," and reviewed David Uosikkinen's In The Pocket's Live at the Keswick CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

THE CREW OF THE HALF MOON - "Stark Lost Lovers"
DEREK WOODS BAND - "Nothing Rhymes with Orange"
CHELSEA TAKAMI - "Rollacoas"
MATT OTIS & THE SOUND - "Frozen Moments"
CHELSEA TAKAMI - "Carry U Around"
ERIC IAN FARMER - "Mother's Wisdom"
CHELSEA TAKAMI - "Romeo"
IDLE KYLE - "Square One"
FABIENNE ROTHKRUG - "The Smiling Black Cuda"

HOUR TWO:

JIM DONOVAN & THE SUN KING WARRIORS - "Love Is Right"
FELIX & THE HURRICANES - "Walking A Straight Line"
CHELSEA TAKAMI - "Wanna Be With You"
DAVID UOSIKKINEN'S IN THE POCKET - "Shelter Me" (live)
CHELSEA TAKAMI - "Heart Wide Open"
MUDBONE - "Must Be Something Better" (2005, Local Music Flashback)
CHELSEA TAKAMI - "Fadeaway"
JOHN "JT" THOMPSON - "Dance Little Sister Dance"

A change of guests for our next program...Scheduling logistics didn't permit us to be able to record our interview with our originally-scheduled band guests, Iron Wolf, in time for the May 19 program, so we and the group agreed to move their appearance back to June 23 instead. But we will have band guests next Sunday, as Altoona-based punk rockers Dave Hates Everything will join us! We'll meet the band members and learn their story, and hear tunes from Dave Hates Everything's brand new self-titled album! Along the way, we will update "Local Music News," dig a "Local Music Flashback" from the archive, and review Post Traumatik's Anger Management CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!" Listen to the "Homegrown Rocker," Sunday night (May 19) at 8 p.m. on 105.9 Qwik-Rock on your FM radio dial, or stream it live online at www.1059qwikrock.com!

In Local Music News...

Felix & the Hurricanes, R2B2, Mama Corn, Frackwater Jack and Miss Melanie & the Valley Rats will be among the performers at the 52nd annual Blair County Arts Festival, happening next Saturday and Sunday, May 18-19, at Penn State Altoona. Admission to the festival is free, but a small parking donation will be collected to support the event. The Arts Festival will then go on temporary hiatus after this year, while the Blair County Arts Foundation devotes attention and energies toward improvements at Altoona’s historic Mishler Theatre.

Former NBC Television “The Voice” contestant, Altoona's Jimmy Mowery, has added a second appearance to his homecoming visit to the area next weekend. Jimmy will perform next Saturday afternoon, May 18, at 4 p.m. during the Historic Hollidaysburg SpringFest event in downtown Hollidaysburg. Jimmy will perform at the outdoor entertainment stage at the corner of Allegheny and Front Streets, and admission is free. Jimmy will also perform Friday night, May 17, at the Altoona Primanti Bros. location. Jimmy had advanced to the final 24 contestants on "The Voice" before falling short on audience votes following the April 29 program.
