Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the July 7 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

Due to the station being off the air on June 23 while its studios and offices were being relocated to a new space in Port Matilda, the originally-scheduled program featuring western PA metal rockers Iron Wolf instead aired this week. We met the members of Iron Wolf at Off The Rak Restaurant in Ebensburg, learned their story, plus discussed and featured songs from their debut CD, Strong Never Broken! Along the way, we debuted a new tune from Medusa's Disco, updated "Local Music News," dug into the archive for a 1999 number by Dofka for our "Local Music Flashback," and reviewed Fyre's 2 Keys CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

FIST FIGHT IN THE PARKING LOT - "Something"
GUN METAL GRAY - "We Are One"
IRON WOLF - "The Hunt/Iron Wolf"
MEDUSA'S DISCO - "Painters Painting Paintings"
IRON WOLF - "Fear"
BRADY NOVOTNY - "Passions Collide"
IRON WOLF - "Evil Angel"

HOUR TWO:

NEGAN - "Where Do We Go From Here"
INSIDE OUT - "Vampire Eyes"
IRON WOLF - "Riders of the Night"
FYRE - "The Onyx Skull"
IRON WOLF - "Invaders"
DOFKA - "Egypt" (1999, Local Music Flashback)
IRON WOLF - "Strong Never Broken"

For our next program, we will speak via phone with our guest, Pittsburgh guitar artist Brady Novotny! We will learn Brady's story and discuss his career and music, and feature songs from Brady's debut CD, Passions Collide! Along the way, we will update "Local Music News," dig into the archive for a "Local Music Flashback," and review Drew Bentley's Bold Horizon CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!" Listen to the "Homegrown Rocker," Sunday night (July 14) at 8 p.m. on 105.9 Qwik-Rock on your FM radio dial, or stream it live online at www.1059qwikrock.com!

In Local Music News...

New local recordings are in the works. The debut recording from Altoona’s August Wake is set to be released this Tuesday. The recording, entitled Mistakes I’ve Made, will be available for downloading and streaming through online music providers. August Wake features a cast of established area musicians, including singer and songwriter Matt Wagner, former Vs. the Earth bassist Eric “Dawg” Swander, former Pistol Peg guitarist Joe Scott, keyboardist Nate Beatty and drummer Manny Barbezzini. August Wake will be guests on the “Homegrown Rocker” on August 4 to discuss their band and new recording.

Altoona-based rock group On The Brink is currently recording their second CD. The name of the album will be Visual Empathy. The album is being recorded at Data Music Services in Altoona.

Conner Gilbert is also working on a new recording to be released later this summer. More details will be forthcoming.

A respected longtime blues musician of the Harrisburg area music scene recently passed away. Mitch Ivanoff passed away from health complications on June 8 at age 67. Mitch played guitar and sang for several Harrisburg area blues projects over the years, helping to found the Krypton City Blues Revue and Tin Can Buddha, and he also performed solo. He was active in the Blues Society of Central PA, and he and Krypton City Blues Revue represented the Blue Society at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis. We at the “Homegrown Rocker” share our sympathies with Mitch’s surviving family, friends and musical colleagues.
