Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the September 1 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

We revisited the mailboxes this week, as more new recordings have arrived in recent days! As a result, we debuted lots of new music, including new songs from Roadkill, Nate Gates, Conner Gilbert, The Ne'er Do Wells, Bob Randall, Dive, Heavy Chest, Yigga Digga and White Witch! Along the way, we updated "Local Music News," dug a 1997 number from Pittsburgh's Bitter Delores from the archive for a "Local Music Flashback," and stepped "Across State Lines" to check out a song from Arkansas-based Americana group National Public Radio (who recently appeared at Johnstown's Flood City Music Festival)!

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

NATE GATES - "It Don't Matter Anymore"
LOWJACK - "When You Were Mine"
ROADKILL - "American Slob"
JUKEHOUSE BOMBERS - "Soul Revival"
CONNER GILBERT - "Lost and Found"
AARON BEAR - "Love Wrote This Song"
THE NE-ER DO WELLS - "We Want"
POST TRAUMATIK - "Rock N'Roll Suicide"
BOB RANDALL - "The Ghost of All the Outlaws"
JUSTIN WADE - "Story to Tell"

HOUR TWO:

THE CREW OF THE HALF MOON - "U-235"
THE CLARKS - "Madly in Love at the End of the World"
DIVE - "Inside Out"
LENINA CROWNE - "Morse Code"
HEAVY CHEST - "Love Lies"
BITTER DELORES - "Carlotta (Nothing's For Free)" (1997, Local Music Flashback)
NATIONAL PARK RADIO - "The Things We'll See" (Across State Lines)
MAMA CORN - "Somebody Knock on Wood"
YIGGA DIGGA - "Bucket Lyst"
WHITE WITCH - "Running with Scissors"

We'll have a returning guest on our next program, as we catch up with Altoona-based singer and songwriter Conner Gilbert! Conner has just released his new album, Life in the Years, and we'll hear his thoughts on creating the album, plus feature songs from it as well! We'll also update "Local Music News," dig a "Local Music Flashback" from the archive, and review John Edwin Phelps' Good Evening Mr. Phelps CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!" Listen to the "Homegrown Rocker," Sunday night (September Cool at 8 p.m. on 105.9 Qwik-Rock on your FM radio dial, or stream it live online at www.1059qwikrock.com!

In Local Music News...

A popular former State College live music venue has returned to life as a new incarnation. Fourteen years after closing its doors, the former Crowbar nightclub on College Avenue has reopened its doors as Re//Bar, and is again featuring live music. The venue featured the bands Lenina Crowne, Green Eggs and Giants of Science this past weekend.

Also opening its doors to live music again will be the Old Oak Tavern in Pine Grove Mills. New owner Liz Grove took over the facility in July, and is renaming it the Pine Grove Hall. The redesigned venue will open for business early next year, and will feature a variety of live music including rock, blues, jazz, bluegrass and more, as well as a new food menu.

Although its future status appeared doubtful several months ago, the annual Northern Appalachian Folk Festival will again take place this month. This year’s event takes place next Thursday, Friday and Saturday, September 5 through 7, in downtown Indiana. Live music will happen on Friday and Saturday. Local Indiana performers Coastal Remedy and Jason Gamble, and Pittsburgh’s Brownie Mary will perform on Friday. Saturday’s slate will include performances from The Evergreens, the Abafasi Wimmins African Drumming Ensemble, Mike Stout, Grist for the Mill, Jim Donovan & the Sun King Warriors, the Jukehouse Bombers and The Clarks. Admission to the festival is free.

Showcase submissions are now being accepted for next year’s 24th annual Millennium Music Conference. The conference will take place from February 27 through 29 at the Park Inn by Radisson Harrisburg West complex near Mechanicsburg, and will feature music business workshops, panels, mentoring, a trade show, and live music showcases happening throughout the Harrisburg area. Bands and artists interested in showcasing at Millennium may submit for free through September 30. After that, there will be a $20 submission fee starting on October 1. The deadline for showcase submissions is November 30. Submissions can be made through Reverbnation and Sonicbids. For more information about the conference and submissions, visit the website www.musicconference.net.
