Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the September 15 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

This week, we returned to the mailboxes to check out more new recordings that have arrived in recent days! We shared lots of new music on the airwaves, debuting new tunes from the Jukehouse Bombers, The New Bad, Van Wagner, Palmlines, Gelatinous Cube, Amanda Nolan, Black Cat Moan and No Casa. Along the way, we updated "Local Music News," dug a 2006 number from Bedford/Cumberland Americana rockers Rob Wallace & the Mess from the archive for a "Local Music Flashback," stepped "Across State Lines" to hear new music from Altoona native Davina (Sowers) Lozier and her Minnesota-based band, Davina & the Vagabonds, and reviewed White Witch's new self-titled CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Here is this week's playlist:

COASTAL REMEDY - "Cozy"

DAVINA & THE VAGABONDS - "I Can't Believe I Let You Go" (Across State Lines)
THE DARK COUNTRY - "Crazies"
NO CASA - "Smoker's Cough"

We'll continue to rummage through the mailboxes on our next program, and check out more new tunes from recordings that have arrived recently. We'll also update "Local Music News," dig a "Local Music Flashback" from the archive, and step "Across State Lines" to hear music from an independent band or artist from outside the state! Listen to the "Homegrown Rocker," Sunday night (September 22) at 8 p.m. on 105.9 Qwik-Rock on your FM radio dial, or stream it live online at www.1059qwikrock.com!

The bands have been announced for this year’s 9th annual Patched Together: A Day of Music to Benefit the Healing Patch. This year’s event will happen on Saturday, November 16, from 2 to 10 p.m. at the Bavarian Aid Society in Altoona, and proceeds will again benefit Home Nursing Agency’s Healing Patch program, which provides counseling and mentoring to young people who have experienced the loss of family members or other loved ones. Performers at this year’s Patched Together will include Jim Donovan & the Sun King Warriors, Stephanie & the Wild Hearts, Greg Burley (acoustic), Ed N’Born, Matt Otis & the Sound, Faded Flowers, The Backyard Rockers and Chris Vipond & the Stanley Street Band. More details about this year’s event will be forthcoming.

The Crew of the Half Moon, The Roof, Black Cat Moan, Bushido Code and The Hope Fallacy are among the 28 different bands and artists performing during the second annual Cre814 Fest, which happens next Saturday, September 21, at downtown Altoona’s Heritage Plaza and throughout downtown Altoona. A celebration of creative arts and ideas, crafts, food and original music, Cre814 Fest will kick off at 1 p.m., and admission is free.

Fans of area 1980s metal rockers Bashful take note: The group is presenting a reconstituted, remixed and remastered 30th anniversary edition of their 1990 album Down for the Count, and plans to release the album, rebranded Down for the Count 2020, in December. The group has begun a Kickstarter campaign to help fund the manufacturing of the album.

Darkness On The Radio has finished work on recording their next CD, and just the mixing remains before the disc gets released sometime this fall.
