Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the November 24 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

We went back to the mailboxes for this week's program, to check out new recordings that have arrived in recent weeks. We debuted lots of new music, including songs from Anatomy Of The Sacred, Railroad City Murder Machines, Gallowglas, Bushmaster feat. Gary Brown, Jessica Illuzzi, Dave Nichols, Nate Gates and Boom Town Boys. Along the way, we updated "Local Music News," dug a 2006 number from The Opposition from the archive for a "Local Music Flashback," stepped "Across State Lines" to hear a song from independent artist and former Misfits frontman from New Jersey, Michale Graves, and we reviewed Conner Gilbert's Life in the Years CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

WALKNEY - "I Always Wanted You"
CHRIS VIPOND & THE STANLEY STREET BAND - "Never Again"
BUSHMASTER feat. GARY BROWN - "The Blues"
BLACK CAT MOAN - "Wanna Be Free"
ANATOMY OF THE SACRED - "Suicide Lake"
NEGAN - "We"
JESSICA ILLUZZI - "Rowdy Blues"
DAN STONEROOK - "Changing"
DAVE NICHOLS - "The Problem Is"
NATE GATES - "Serpents in My Dreams"
BOOM TOWN BOYS - "The River Song"

HOUR TWO:

THE SNIPPED - "Hand That Feeds"
BLIND CHOICE - "Balance on the Floor"
ZACH WADE & THE GOOD GRIEF - "I'll Survive"
CONNER GILBERT - "Still Gonna Find Our Way"
RAILROAD CITY MURDER MACHINES - "Butcher"
THE OPPOSITION - "Finger Lickin'" (2006, Local Music Flashback)
MICHALE GRAVES - "Diabolical" (Across State Lines)
CHILDREN OF OCTOBER - "Apartment 213"
GALLOWGLAS - "43 Gods"
DARKNESS ON THE RADIO - "Snake Eyes"
SMALL TOWN HORROR SHOW - "Poison Apples"
SMALL TOWN TITANS - "Me Myself and Monster"

We bring back a special we haven't done in a couple of years on our next program. On the "Fast Forward Special," we will feature song double-shots throughout the program, with the first song being something from early in the career of an area band or musician, and the second song being something recent from that same band or musician - thus 'fast-forwarding' through their career! We'll feature fast-forwards spotlighting long-running area bands, as well as individual musicians (whose early and recent songs might be from completely different genres!). Due to the premise of this program, there will be plenty of "Local Music Flashback" tunes during the entire program, and as part of one of our fast-forward double-shots, we will review Darkness On The Radio's Darkness On The Radio II: Snake Eyes CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!" Listen to the "Fast Foward Special" edition of the "Homegrown Rocker," Sunday night (December 1) at 8 p.m. on 105.9 Qwik-Rock on your FM radio dial, or stream it live online at www.1059qwikrock.com!

In Local Music News...

The Altoona area music scene was stunned this past week by the unexpected passing of a musician and friend. Mike Bryant, known by his nickname “Iceman,” passed away early last Sunday morning, Nov. 17 at age 42. Mike was a drummer, bassist and singer who had played in several Altoona area bands during the past two decades. He was probably best known as the vocalist for The Opposition, which resurfaced on area stages two years ago and was working on new song material. He also played drums in Dafunkt, and played bass in the group Tore Up. We at the “Homegrown Rocker” express our heartfelt sympathies to Mike’s family, friends and the music community.

The Cre814 organization in Altoona, who has presented the annual late summer Cre814 Fest during the past two years, has announced their first annual Winter Carnival event. The Cre814 Winter Carnival 2020 will take place on Saturday, March 7 from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the U.S. Hotel in Hollidaysburg. The all-ages event will feature local vendors, artists and live music, including eight bands that will perform throughout the day. Food and refreshments will be available as well. Early-bird tickets for $5 per person will be available through December. Advance tickets will then be $7 per person from January up until the event, and $10 at the door during the day of the event.
