Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the January 12 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

As area schools and colleges resume classes after the holiday break, we saluted members of the area music community who also work in classroom environments in our inaugural "Local Musicians in Academia Special!" We spotlighted those folks who teach in classrooms by day and make music by night! From area folk performers to blues artists, to rock, punk and even one of the heaviest metal bands in the state, we heard from local and regional educators who represent on live music stages! Along the way, we updated "Local Music News," and reviewed educator Van Wagner's "Shortleaf Pine" CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Here is this week's playlist (with highlighted musicians/educators in parentheses):

HOUR ONE:

We welcome our first band guests on the year on our next program, as area jam music adventurers Mysterytrain join us! Back to full strength, Mysterytrain has been working on new song material in advance of the upcoming 2020 festival season; we'll discuss the group's new music and hear some of the new songs! Along the way, we will dig a "Local Music Flashback" to the archive, and we'll check out new songs from some other area musicians! Listen to the "Homegrown Rocker," Sunday night (January 19) at 8 p.m. on 105.9 Qwik-Rock on your FM radio dial, or stream it live online at www.1059qwikrock.com!

In Local Music News...

Guitarist Rick Ramsey is parting ways with area rockers The Zero Club to pursue other interests. His last show with the group will take place this Saturday night (Jan. 1Cool at The Grove in Belsano.

And the area music scene was saddened to learn of the passing of Biranda “Honey Brown” Goodman on December 29 at age 36 following a brief illness. Biranda was a singer who had worked with area musician Chet Denny in early incarnations of his PennSoulvanians project, and she also hosted karaoke at area venues. She was also an alumnus and award winner with the late Dennie Huber’s “Crazy Fest” Amateur Youth Talent Show as well. We at the “Homegrown Rocker” extend our heartfelt sympathies to Biranda’s family, friends and musical colleagues.
