Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the February 9 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

This week, we returned to the mailboxes to explore new area recordings that have arrived in recent weeks, and we debuted some new music on the program. Receiving their first spins were new tunes from Gelatinous Cube, Alyssa Hankey, Little Buddy, Black Cat Moan, Jelli, Afraid Of Human, Homicide Black and Suicide Puppets. Along the way, we updated "Local Music News," dug into the archive to pull out a 2004 number from Ever Since Yesterday for this week's "Local Music Flashback," and stepped "Across State Lines" to remember Baltimore bluesman Reggie Wayne Morris (who passed away on February 4).

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

JOHN EDWIN PHELPS - "Fight'n Chance"
DONNY BURNS & THE 3RD DEGREE - "Think You Know"
GELATINOUS CUBE - "Love Dimension"
CHRIS VIPOND & THE STANLEY STREET BAND - "Armchair Preachers"
ALYSSA HANKEY - "The Flood"
DYLAN MILLER - "Favorite Distraction"
LITTLE BUDDY - "(No) Buddy's Valentine"
DEREK WOODS BAND - "The Question"
BLACK CAT MOAN - "Hula Blues"
BUSHMASTER feat. GARY BROWN - "The Blues"
JELLI - "D'Evil"

HOUR TWO:

ROADKILL - "PSA from the Anti-Valentine's Day Council"
MEDUSA'S DISCO - "Painters Painting Paintings"
AFRAID OF HUMAN - "Not This Time"
SAVAGE BLISS - "Churn"
HOMICIDE BLACK - "We Will Remain"
EVER SINCE YESTERDAY - "Without You" (2004, Local Music Flashback)
REGGIE WAYNE MORRIS - "Don't Bring Me Daylight" (Across State Lines)
THE DARK COUNTRY - "Free"
SUICIDE PUPPETS - "World's On Fire"
DARKNESS ON THE RADIO - "Snake Eyes"
DEFIANT - "Wendy"
THE FILTHY LOWDOWN - "Hydroplane"

We will return to the mailboxes this week to explore some more new recordings that have arrived in recent days. We will also spotlight some of the many bands and artists participating and showcasing at the upcoming Millennium Music Conference in Harrisburg later this month. Along the way, we will update "Local Music News," dig a "Local Music Flashback" from the archive, and step "Across State Lines" to hear music from an independent band or artist from outside of PA, and review Savage Bliss' The Warning CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!" Listen to the "Homegrown Rocker," this Sunday night (February 16) at 8 p.m. on 105.9 Qwik-Rock on your FM radio dial, or stream it live online at www.1059qwikrock.com!

In Local Music News...

A former area musician gets to play flute on Stone Temple Pilots’ new album. Aeb Byrne, who played keys and flute during the early years of State College band favorites The Nightcrawlers, is playing flute on two songs on Stone Temple Pilots new acoustic-geared album, Perdida, which was released on Friday. Aeb appears on the songs “I Didn’t Know the Time” and “She’s My Queen.”

In a surprise development, Johnstown heavy metal rockers Darkness On The Radio are closing out their musical journey. Frontman and guitarist Jason Straw announced this past week that the group was ending its run on area stages.

And a reminder that next Sunday, February 16, is the day for the “Heaviest Fundraiser Ever” benefit show for Jen Johnstonbaugh, which takes place at McGarvey’s in Altoona. The bands Donny Burns & the 3rd Degree, Black Sun, Maul, E.N.D., Paradigm and Roadkill will donate their talents during the show. The event will starts at 3 p.m. Proceeds from the concert will help Jen " the wife of area drummer Darl Johnstonbaugh " as she is being treated for marginal zone B cell lymphoma. Donation at the door will be $5 per person.
