Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the March 22 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

We welcomed a guest on our program this week, as Braden McDannell joined us in studio (in an interview recorded before the COVID-19 shutdown began). Braden enlightened us on his career and music, and we heard tracks from Braden's CD East & West. And Braden brought his guitar and played a few songs live for us as well! Along the way, we debuted new songs from Bree Gearhart and Chris Rattie & the New Rebels, updated "Local Music News," dug a 1995 number from State College's Jealous Sun from the archive for this week's "Local Music Flashback," and reviewed The Jakob's Ferry Stragglers' Poison River CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

CHRIS VIPOND & THE STANLEY STREET BAND - "Pink Parking Ticket"
BLACK CAT MOAN - "Is What It Is"
BRADEN McDANNELL - "The Licks I've Taken"
BREE GEARHART - "Erase the Tragedy"
BRADEN McDANNELL - "Slow Down"
JOHN "JT" THOMPSON - "Dance Little Sister Dance"
BRADEN McDANNELL - "At the Door" (live on the air)
NORMAN NARDINI - "Ain't It Amazing"
CHRIS RATTIE & THE NEW REBELS - "Chaos & Stardust"

HOUR TWO:

FELIX & THE HURRICANES - "Walking a Straight Line"
CALLIE TOMBLIN - "Lost It"
BRADEN McDANNELL - "Yesterday, Tomorrow and Today" (live on the air)
THE JAKOB'S FERRY STRAGGLERS - "Poison River"
BRADEN McDANNELL - "Medicate"
JEALOUS SUN - "Turn Aside" (1995, Local Music Flashback)
BRADEN McDANNELL - "Scene in the Sky"

Originally we were to have a band guest from last month's Millennium Music Conference on our next program, but lack of communication has prompted a delay in that guest band's appearance. Instead, we will clean out the mailboxes and debut lots of music from new recordings that have arrived in recent weeks - hear new tunes from Chip & the Charge Ups, My Hero Zero, The Dead End Streets, The Snipped, Scarlet Moon, Roadkill and more! Along the way, we will dig into the archive for a "Local Music Flashback," and step "Across State Lines" to explore music from a band or artist from outside the state! Listen to the "Homegrown Rocker," this Sunday night (March 29) at 8 p.m. on 105.9 Qwik-Rock on your FM radio dial, or stream it live online at www.1059qwikrock.com!

Upcoming guests and specials:

APR. 5 - CHIP & THE CHARGE UPS
APR. 12 - ROADKILL
APRIL 19 - MATTHEW DEWEESE (ALTOONA MUSIC SCENE)
APRIL 26 - HUXLEY (MMC drawing winner)
MAY 24 - MEMORIAL DAY SPECIAL

(All dates are subject to changes as circumstances warrant.)

Bands and artists wanting to submit news items for "Local Music News" may email their news to homegrownrocker@gmail.com. Indicate "MUSIC NEWS" in the subject heading!

Bands and artists interested in having music aired on the show are invited to send their broadcast-quality recordings to: Magnum Broadcasting, 100 High Street, Port Matilda, PA 16870; ATTN: Jim Price/Homegrown. Or drop the recordings off at the station during regular business hours, Monday-Friday 9 AM to 5 PM. You can also email digital song files or inquiries about the show to homegrownrocker@gmail.com.

In Local Music News...

Of course, the big news on the area music scene is the total shutdown of live music performance venues across the country due to the COVID-19 coronavirus situation. Pennsylvania governor Tom Wolf first announced the statewide shutdown of nonessential bars and restaurants effective at midnight on Monday night. The initial closure was expected to last two weeks.

With musicians and bands not able to perform in front of live public audience, many have turned to the internet, and are performing and streaming house concerts live online, and establishing online “tip jars” via Paypal and other online money transfer platforms for fans and visitors who wish to donate.

Due in part because of the current situation, the Altoona-based modern rock band Faded Flowers has announced the online release of their debut EP, called The Side Effects of Living. The five-song EP is available for purchase through the group’s Bandcamp page.
