Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the April 5 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

Thanks to the father-and-daughter pair of Chip and Maleena from this week's band guests, Pittsburgh's Chip & the Charge Ups, for joining us via phone! We learned about the band and its history, and heard numerous tunes from their just-released third CD, Lightning in Our Veins - including an amped-up update of a Blondie hit and a mash-up pairing songs from a heavy metal god and a pop hit queen! Along the way, we debuted new songs from Madison Ryan and Faded Flowers, updated "Local Music News," dug a 2001 tune from Tripwire from the archive for a "Local Music Flashback," and reviewed Yigga Digga's No Limiter CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

CONNER GILBERT - "Here's to the Days"
POST TRAUMATIK - "Misery"
CHIP & THE CHARGE UPS - "Feel Electricity"
NEGAN - "We"
CHIP & THE CHARGE UPS - "The Tide Is High"
MADISON RYAN - "Don't Look Back"
CHIP & THE CHARGE UPS - "Toxic Human"
MEDUSA'S DISCO - "Book Upon My Shelf"
FADED FLOWERS - "Stay"

HOUR TWO:

ROADKILL - "American Slob"
INSIDE OUT - "Next to You"
CHIP & THE CHARGE UPS - "Bark at the Bad Romance"
YIGGA DIGGA - "I Think I Thought I Know"
CHIP & THE CHARGE UPS - "This Bomb Ain't Gonna Light Itself"
TRIPWIRE - "Unleashed" (2001, Local Music Flashback)
CHIP & THE CHARGE UPS - "Iced Tea and Lemonade"

It has been a long, long time since Roadkill has been guests on our show, but they return to join us via phone on our next program! We'll get acquainted with the current roster, learn new and old facts and history about the group, and hear new "rot and roll" songs from Roadkill's just-recorded EP plus a few Roadkill classics as well! Along the way, we will update "Local Music News," dig a "Local Music Flashback" from the archive, and review Black Cat Moan's Symbols CD from "The Professor's CD Corner!" Listen to the "Homegrown Rocker," this Sunday night (April 12) at 8 p.m. on 105.9 Qwik-Rock on your FM radio dial, or stream it live online at www.1059qwikrock.com!

Upcoming guests and specials:

APRIL 19 - MATTHEW DEWEESE (ALTOONA MUSIC SCENE)
APRIL 26 - HUXLEY (MMC drawing winner)
MAY 24 - MEMORIAL DAY SPECIAL

(All dates are subject to changes as circumstances warrant.)

In Local Music News...

With the statewide shutdown of performance venues, bars and restaurants continuing due to the COVID-19 situation, multiple performances, concerts and even some outdoor festival events are being cancelled, even stretching into May.

Among events that have been cancelled or postponed are The Front’s farewell reunion performance, which was to happen near the end of this month at Altoona’s Four Dees Lounge. The event is now likely to instead take place in late October.

Huntingdon’s annual Mayfest celebration, which usually happens the final Saturday of April in downtown Huntingdon, has been cancelled for this year.

The 13th annual NEPA Bluegrass Festival, scheduled for late May at Lazy Brook Park near Tunkhannock, has been cancelled. Mama Corn, the Hillbilly Gypsies, Serene Green and Valerie Smith & Liberty Pike were among the performers slated to play at that event.

One event that is still on at this point is the Huntingdon County Arts Council’s annual Folk College with Simple Gifts. That event happens May 22 through 24 at Juniata College in Huntingdon. The Folk College will feature folk music workshops, coaching, concerts, singing, dancing and jamming. Some of the artists expected to be at this year’s event include the host band Simple Gifts, John McCutcheon, Grammy Award winners Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer, The Appleseed Collective, Richard Sleigh and many more. For more information and to register, visit the event’s website, www.folkcollege.com.

During this difficult time, we at the “Homegrown Rocker” encourage our listeners and area music fans to help out musicians as their livelihoods are on hold and they cannot earn their regular income. Consider visiting their websites to purchase CD’s, music downloads or other merchandise, or make a donation to their virtual “tip jars” when you see artists performing live streaming concerts.
