Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the April 26 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

This week's guest came to us as a result of February's 24th annual Millennium Music Conference in Harrisburg...When southern New Jersey-based rock band Huxley's card was drawn from the "Homegrown Rocker" dropbox during the conference's trade show, Huxley won a guest interview and appearance on this week's show! The group's lead singer, Doug, discussed Huxley and their story, how they formed, their music, live show and future plans. And we heard tracks from Huxley's self-titled debut EP! Along the way, we debuted new songs from The Returners, Bree Gearhart and Volume to Nothing, updated "Local Music News," dug a 1996 song by Blue Skye Mourning from the archive for a "Local Music Flashback," and reviewed Scarlet Moon's Fifth Dimension CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

IRON WOLF - "The Hunt/Iron Wolf"
INSIDE OUT - "Sacrifice"
HUXLEY - "Evol"
CHIP & THE CHARGE UPS - "This Bomb Ain't Gonna Light Itself"
HUXLEY - "If I Ruled the World"
THE RETURNERS - "Coup"
HUXLEY - "Regression"
NEGAN - "Where Do We Go From Here"
BREE GEARHART - "Dark Cloud"
JIM DONOVAN & THE SUN KING WARRIORS - "Right in Front of Me"

HOUR TWO:

DREW BENTLEY - "Bold Horizon"
THE FILTHY LOWDOWN - "Mischief"
HUXLEY - "Girl Thang"
SCARLET MOON - "Centipede"
HUXLEY - "We Are"
BLUE SKYE MOURNING - "Bus People" (1996, Local Music Flashback)
VOLUME TO NOTHING - "Bloodshed"
JOHN EDWIN PHELPS - "Civilized World"
OBSERVE THE 93RD - "Cartoons"

With a lot of guests and specials in recent weeks, it has been a little while since we have had a chance to clean out the mailboxes, so we will do that for our next program! We will check out new local and regional recordings that have arrived in recent weeks, and debut lots of new tunes! Along the way, we will update "Local Music News," dig a song from a past band or artist from the archive for a "Local Music Flashback," step "Across State Lines" to hear music from an independent band or artist from outside of PA, and review Callie Tomblin's Who I Am CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!" Listen to the "Homegrown Rocker," this Sunday night (May 3) at 8 p.m. on 105.9 Qwik-Rock on your FM radio dial, or stream it live online at www.1059qwikrock.com!

Upcoming guests and specials:

MAY 10 - JAKOB VLADIMIR
MAY 24 - MEMORIAL DAY SPECIAL

(All dates are subject to changes as circumstances warrant.)

In Local Music News...

More performances, festivals and events have been cancelled or postponed due to the COVID-19 situation and precautions regarding large gatherings.

Four of Centre County’s biggest summertime festivals â€" the Central PA 4th Fest and Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts in State College, Philipsburg Heritage Days and People’s Choice Festival of Pennsylvania Arts & Crafts â€" all have canceled their events for this year due to the pandemic and health concerns.

The Johnstown Area Heritage Association has announced the cancellation of this year’s AmeriServ Flood City Music Festival in early August. And the annual Westsylvania Jazz and Blues Festival, scheduled to happen on Memorial Day weekend in downtown Indiana, has been scrubbed for this year due to COVID-19.

During this difficult time, we at the “Homegrown Rocker” encourage our listeners and area music fans to help out musicians as their livelihoods are on hold and they cannot earn their regular income. Consider visiting their websites to purchase CD’s, music downloads or other merchandise, or make a donation to their virtual “tip jars” when you see artists performing live streaming concerts.
