Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the May 3 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

It has been a few weeks since we have visited the program's mailboxes, so we caught up on that duty this week and checked out new local and regional recordings that have arrived in recent weeks! As a result, we debuted lots of new music! We introduced new songs from Dave Nichols, Jae Smith, Raven and the Wren, Marshmellow Overcoat, Rocket Loves Blue and Fresh Air Man! Along the way, we updated "Local Music News," dug a 2000 number from Skaterman & the Box of Death from the archives for our "Local Music Flashback," stepped "Across State Lines" to hear a song from former Altoona area musician Scott Quay and his current San Francisco Bay area band Spider Garage, and reviewed Callie Tomblin's Who I Am CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

ZACH WADE & THE GOOD GRIEF - "From a Coma"
NATE GATES - "Ghosts on the River"
DAVE NICHOLS - "I Wanna Be Free"
RIK GOLDEN - "His Last One"
JAE SMITH - "Tragically Beautiful"
MYCENEA WORLEY - "That Is All (The Leaf Song)"
RAVEN AND THE WREN - "A Healthy Dose of Misery"
PATRICK McGINNIS - "Sure Feels Like She's Gone"
KERRY RICHARD PAK & OUTLAW COUNTRY - "Wild Mountain Flower"
THE JAKOB'S FERRY STRAGGLERS - "Beaumont Butler's Blues"
MARSHMELLOW OVERCOAT - "Goin' to Williamsport" (live)

HOUR TWO:

ROADKILL - "The Adam Stomp"
FELIX & THE HURRICANES - "Whirlwind" (live)
ROCKET LOVES BLUE - "The Great Indoors"
CALLIE TOMBLIN - "You and I"
FRESH AIR MAN - "A Blip Upon the Chart"
SKATERMAN & THE BOX OF DEATH - "Scared of the Shrub" (2000, Local Music Flashback)
SPIDER GARAGE - "Tears By the Pail" (Across State Lines)
THE UNFORTUNATEZ - "Feng Shui Mein Al Grotten"
AFRAID OF HUMAN - "Not This Time"
IMAGES OF EDEN - "Let Me Die Young"
HATE GRENADE - "The King Is Dead"

On our next program, we meet and get acquainted with Altoona area musical adventurer Jakob Vladimir! We'll learn Jakob's story and discuss his music and creative process, and hear tracks from his just-released full length album Therapy! Along the way, we will update "Local Music News," dig a "Local Music Flashback" from the archive, and review the Railroad City Murder Machines' self-titled CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!" Listen to the "Homegrown Rocker," this Sunday night (May 10) at 8 p.m. on 105.9 Qwik-Rock on your FM radio dial, or stream it live online at www.1059qwikrock.com!

In Local Music News...

More performances, festivals and events have been cancelled due to the COVID-19 situation and precautions regarding large gatherings.

The annual Smoked Country Jam Bluegrass Festival, scheduled to happen in June at the Quiet Oaks Campground near Cross Fork, was cancelled for this year due to the pandemic and health concerns. And connected with Smoked Country Jam, the Pennsylvania Heritage Songwriters Contest, which recognizes songwriters who create songs about Pennsylvania, its history and heritage, has also been cancelled for this year.

The plug has also been pulled for this year on Boalsburg’s annual Memorial Day events, including the fire company festival, parade and downtown square festival…as well as the Huntingdon County Arts Council’s annual Folk College with Simple Gifts.

Western PA progressive rockers We Came From Space have issued a new EP called Reason in the Rhyme.

During this difficult time, we at the “Homegrown Rocker” encourage our listeners and area music fans to help out musicians as their livelihoods are on hold and they cannot earn their regular income. Consider visiting their websites to purchase CD’s, music downloads or other merchandise, or make a donation to their virtual “tip jars” when you see artists performing live streaming concerts.
