Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the May 10 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

Thanks to our guest via phone this week, Altoona musical adventurer Jakob Vladimir, for being part of our program! We met and got acquainted with Jakob and learned his story, plus discussed his creative process, his music and his just-released new album called Therapy, and heard several tracks from it! Along the way, we debuted a new tune from Images Of Eden, updated "Local Music News," dug a 2001 song from Sanity's Grip from the archive for a "Local Music Flashback," and reviewed the Railroad City Murder Machines' self-titled CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

SILVER SCREEN - "Drugs"
KALI MA & THE GARLAND OF ARMS - "Paranormal"
JAKOB VLADIMIR - "Minefield"
IMAGES OF EDEN - "Autumn Is Burning"
JAKOB VLADIMIR - "The Blame"
GALLOWGLAS - "43 Gods"
JAKOB VLADIMIR - "Paranoid"
FYRE - "Doctor Doctor"

HOUR TWO:

SKELL - "Everything's Fine"
SHATTERED - "What You Reap"
JAKOB VLADIMIR - "And Now I'm Free"
RAILROAD CITY MURDER MACHINES - "These Streets"
JAKOB VLADIMIR - "Hate in Me"
SANITY'S GRIP - "Dragons and Butterflies" (2001, Local Music Flashback)
JAKOB VLADIMIR - "Therapy"
THE BAND JUNKIES - "Shook_Spark"

On our next program, it's back to the mailboxes to check out more new local and regional recordings that have arrived in recent days, meaning we will again be debuting a number of new songs! Along the way, we will update "Local Music News," dig another "Local Music Flashback" from the archive, step "Across State Lines" to hear music from a band or artist from outside the state, and we'll review not one, but TWO CD's in "The Professor's CD Corner" - we'll check out Robin and Bob's Leave On CD during the first hour, and Kevin Roy Correll's self-titled CD during the second hour! Listen to the "Homegrown Rocker," this Sunday night (May 17) at 8 p.m. on 105.9 Qwik-Rock on your FM radio dial, or stream it live online at www.1059qwikrock.com!

Upcoming guests and specials:

MAY 24 - MEMORIAL DAY SPECIAL
JUNE 21 - FATHER'S DAY/FAMILY TRADITION SPECIAL
JULY 5 - COVER SONG SPECIAL

(All dates are subject to changes as circumstances warrant.)

Bands and artists wanting to submit news items for "Local Music News" may email their news to homegrownrocker@gmail.com. Indicate "MUSIC NEWS" in the subject heading!

In Local Music News...

More performances, festivals and events have been cancelled due to the COVID-19 situation and precautions regarding large gatherings.

Altoona’s Railroaders Museum has postponed the first show of its summertime Alive at Five concert series. That show, featuring Kid Rock tribute group Cowboy, has been moved from its original May 29 date to July 17.

Cambria County acoustic duo Low Voltage â€" comprised of singers and guitarists Joe Konior and Lee Miller â€" are going their separate ways. The parting is a friendly one, with Lee planning to work with some new acoustic projects.

And the area music scene mourned the recent passing of Mike Diller on April 27 at age 62. Based in the Bedford area, Mike was a talented multi-instrumentalist who frequently collaborated with other area musicians and sat in with various bands from time to time. He also was a man of many interests, a traveler and a researcher, and well-liked in the music community. We at the “Homegrown Rocker” share our heartfelt sympathies with Mike’s family and friends.

During this difficult time, we at the “Homegrown Rocker” encourage our listeners and area music fans to help out musicians as their livelihoods are on hold and they cannot earn their regular income. Consider visiting their websites to purchase CD’s, music downloads or other merchandise, or make a donation to their virtual “tip jars” when you see artists performing live streaming concerts.
