Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the June 7 edition of "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Q94 Classic Rock (94.3 FM) in Altoona and Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via both stations' websites.

A history lesson: the "Homegrown Rocker" debuted on March 8, 1998 on Q94 as a one-hour program called the "Backyard Rocker." The show expanded to its two-hour format the following year, and enjoyed a successful initial run on Q94 until 2009. Eleven years later, starting with this week's program, the "Homegrown Rocker" has now returned to the Q94 Classic Rock airwaves, and continues to air on 105.9 Qwik-Rock as well! We celebrated the return to Q94 this week with the "Homegrown Homecoming Special," as we mixed current songs from the area music scene with tunes we played on that first "Backyard Rocker" program (and during March), 1998! This means that we featured plenty of "Local Music Flashback" tunes from past bands and artists! We also updated "Local Music News," and reviewed Felix & the Hurricanes' double-CD live set All Roads Lead to Cresson in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

ZACH WADE & THE GOOD GRIEF - "Halfway Man"
EDISON - "Bracing" (1997, Local Music Flashback)
BLACK CAT MOAN - "Wanna Be Free"
INSIDE OUT - "Always" (1996, Local Music Flashback)
FADED FLOWERS - "Stay"
THE CLARKS - "Help Me Out"
CHE (CHET DENNY) - "Hustle Til the Morning"
NEOGUMBO - "Star" (1997, Local Music Flashback)
TONY MOLLICK - "Angelic Jam"
THE GROOVE JUNKIES - "Justice" (1996, Local Music Flashback)
TED McCLOSKEY & MOLLY COUNTERMINE - "So Much Later Than Before"

HOUR TWO:

PURE CANE SUGAR - "Designated Driver"
CLOVE - "Flying" (1998, Local Music Flashback)
FELIX & THE HURRICANES - "Way Behind" (live) (1997, Local Music Flashback)
FELIX & THE HURRICANES - "Whipping Post" (live)
YIGGA DIGGA - "Opus"
WHISKEY HIGH - "Whiskey High" (live) (1992/1999, Local Music Flashback)
RAILROAD CITY MURDER MACHINES - "Backsleeve"
FURTHER GONE - "Mixed Emotions" (1997, Local Music Flashback)

For our next program, we return to the mailboxes to check out more new recordings that have arrived in recent days - meaning we will be debuting lots of new music! Listen to hear new songs from Ted McCloskey, Steve Brosky, Jay Zimmerman, Roc MD, Ryan Clark, Phase Materia and more! We will also update "Local Music News," dig a tune from the archive for a "Local Music Flashback," and step "Across State Lines" to explore music from an independent band or artist from outside PA! And we'll review not one, but TWO new regional albums in "The Professor's CD Corner," exploring Arte Tedesco's Lightning Strikes! during the first hour, and Rik Golden's Hold On during the second hour! Hear the "Homegrown Rocker" this Sunday night (June 14) on Q94 Classic Rock (94.3 on your FM dial, or online at www.q94classicrock.com) and 105.9 Qwik Rock (105.9 on your FM dial, or online at www.1059qwikrock.com)!

Upcoming guests and specials:

JUNE 21 - FATHER'S DAY/FAMILY TRADITION SPECIAL
JUNE 28 - KING CATFISH
JULY 5 - FELIX & THE HURRICANES
JULY 12 - COVER SONG SPECIAL

(All dates are subject to changes as circumstances warrant.)

In Local Music News...

More summer season music-related events have been cancelled or postponed due to concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic. The annual Centre Grange Fair, slated for August, was cancelled for this year, as was the annual Pittsburgh Blues and Roots Festival, and the Hickory Fest and Appalachian Fiddle Bluegrass Festivals for this year.

Meanwhile, Altoona’s Railroaders Museum has revised the schedule for its “Alive at Five” summer concert series due to COVID-19. The series will now kick off on July 10 with Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute group High Noon, with concert happening each Friday through August 14.

White Witch has signed a recording deal with Pennsylvania-based independent record label, Heaven & Hell Records. The group’s first release for that label is a reissue of their 1988 EP Hell Is Doomed, which was issued earlier this month.

As members of The Clarks have been doing weekly live stream performances, the group will be mastering highlights from those performances, and compiling them onto a forthcoming CD called Live from the Live Stream.

And Brookville-based heavy metal group Hatred Rising has recently rebooted under a new name, Discord.

During this difficult time, we at the “Homegrown Rocker” encourage our listeners and area music fans to help out musicians as their livelihoods are on hold and they cannot earn their regular income. Consider visiting their websites to purchase CD’s, music downloads or other merchandise, or make a donation to their virtual “tip jars” when you see artists performing live streaming concerts.
