Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the June 28 edition of "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Q94 Classic Rock (94.3 FM) in Altoona and Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via both stations' websites. (Due to technical difficulties, this program did not air on 105.9 Qwik-Rock, which aired a rebroadcast of the Memorial Day Special program from May 24.)

Thanks to our guests this week, the members of Pittsburgh-based rock band King Catfish, for joining us via phone! We met the band members and learned their story, plus discussed and played songs off their just-released debut CD, Americancer! Along the way, we debuted new songs from Blood Union, Walkney and D-Bo, updated "Local Music News," dug a 1998 song from Huntingdon's Copasetic from the archive for a "Local Music Flashback," and reviewed Ted McCloskey's The Lost Season Sessions Vol. 1: The Big Pause in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

CONNER GILBERT - "Here's to the Days"
PRIVATE I - "Deedles"
KING CATFISH - "Neptune Street"
BLOOD UNION - "A World Apart"
KING CATFISH - "Push"
WALKNEY - "Beast"
KING CATFISH - "Even as an Odd"
13 SAINTS - "New York Doll"
D-BO - "I Can't Breathe"

HOUR TWO:

CHRIS RATTIE - "Burn 'Em Down"
MICHAEL REICH - "Turning on a Dime"
KING CATFISH - "Waiting"
TED McCLOSKEY - "Some Things Aren't Meant to Fly"
KING CATFISH - "Americancer"
COPASETIC - "Feel" (1998, Local Music Flashback)
KING CATFISH - "Weird One"

Due to scheduling issues, we have revised our program schedule - Felix & the Hurricanes will instead appear on the July 12 program, and our "Cover Song Special" will appear on July 19. So on our next program, we will revisit the mailboxes and get updated on more new local and regional recordings that have arrived in recent weeks! We'll debut a number of new songs, plus update "Local Music News," dig a "Local Music Flashback" from the archive, step "Across State Lines" to hear music from an independent band or artist from outside the state, and review a new local CD (or maybe two) in "The Professor's CD Corner!" Hear the "Homegrown Rocker" this Sunday night (July 5) on Q94 Classic Rock (94.3 on your FM dial, or online at www.q94classicrock.com) and 105.9 Qwik Rock (105.9 on your FM dial, or online at www.1059qwikrock.com)!

Upcoming guests and specials:

JULY 12 - FELIX & THE HURRICANES
JULY 19 - COVER SONG SPECIAL
AUGUST 2 - DONNY BURNS & THE 3RD DEGREE
OCTOBER 18 - TONY MOLLICK

(All dates are subject to changes as circumstances warrant.)

In Local Music News...

Cancellations as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic continue…

After weeks of speculation, the Fair and Park Board of the Clearfield County Fair announced that they are cancelling the 160th annual fair due to concerns over COVID-19, including health, safety and logistical issues.

The Ebensburg Main Street Partnership has announced the cancellation of the 29th annual PotatoFest, which was scheduled to happen in late September. The Partnership cited health and safety concerns as PotatoFest draws thousands of people into downtown Ebensburg every year. PotatoFest will return on September 25, 2021.

Johnstown-based acoustic duo The Evergreens have announced they will embark on a west coast performance tour next month. Laurel Harrison and Amanda Alt had planned the tour before COVID-19 struck, and thought it would have to be cancelled. But when several venues re-confirmed the duo’s show dates, they decided to proceed with the tour plans, which will also involve exploring National Parks when they are not performing.

In the aftermath of the band Darkness On The Radio disbanding several months ago, a new project has risen. The Heathen Parade features Darkness alumni Jason Straw on guitar and vocals, and Jay Snyder on bass. Rik Golden, recently playing bass with The Snipped, will move behind the drum kit in this new band, which will make their official on stage debut on July 10 at McGarvey’s in Altoona, opening for the Legendary Hucklebucks.

Lewistown-based hard rock band Junkhouse announced that they recently have gone their separate ways. Junkhouse singer Brent Carolus, drummer Brad Slemons and guitarist Jeremiah Shafer are forming a new, yet-unnamed band project.

And Tyrone-based thrash-metal band E.N.D. has announced their end, as the band members are going their separate ways. The split is friendly, as the members plan to pursue other music-related projects. E.N.D.’s final performance will happen on Sept. 12 during the annual Chuck and Christy’s Backwoods Bash near Everett.

During this difficult time, we at the “Homegrown Rocker” encourage our listeners and area music fans to help out musicians as their livelihoods are on hold and they cannot earn their regular income. Consider visiting their websites to purchase CD’s, music downloads or other merchandise, or make a donation to their virtual “tip jars” when you see artists performing live streaming concerts.
