Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the July 19 edition of "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Q94 Classic Rock (94.3 FM) in Altoona and Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via both stations' websites.

Every week on the "Homegrown Rocker," we feature music from local and regional bands and artists with the emphasis on their original song creations. But once a year, we devote a show to cover songs, and explore how area musicians interpret and apply their own voices to music others have created. Thus our latest program was the annual "Homegrown Rocker" Cover Song Special, as we heard a myriad of area performers take on music by mostly famous bands and artists, including time-tested song favorites and even a few deep cuts and lesser-known performers. And musical flavors were wide-ranging, spanning rock, alternative, folk, country, delta blues, punk, Celtic, polka and more! We also dug into the archive to pull a cover from a past area band for this week's "Local Music Flashback": Crossover's 1995 rendition of a Steve Earle classic!

Here is this week's playlist (with covered band/artist in parentheses):

HOUR ONE:

GENE THE WEREWOLF - "Thriller" (Michael Jackson)
MONSTER TRACK SUPERGROUP - "Day After Day" (Badfinger)
BREE GEARHART - "Standing Still" (Jewel)
PURE CANE SUGAR - "For What It's Worth" (Stephen Stills/Buffalo Springfield)
STEVE TREADO - "Somebody to Love" (Jefferson Airplane)
BOB HELBIG - "Go All the Way" (Raspberries)
POST TRAUMATIK - "Faster Disco" (Faith No More)
CHIP & THE CHARGE UPS - "The Tide Is High" (Blondie)
STEPHANIE & THE WILD HEARTS (The Chrome Hearts) - "Ode to Billie Jo" (Bobbie Gentry)
KRISTI JEAN & HER NE'ER DO WELLS - "In the Jailhouse Now" (Jimmie Rodgers)
SHANE SPEAL - "Working Man" (Rush)
BLACK CAT MOAN - "House of the Rising Sun" (traditional/The Animals)

HOUR TWO:

ALEX MEIXNER BAND - "Crazy Train Medley" (live) (Ozzy Osbourne/Monkees/Patsy Cline/Glenn Miller)
FELIX & THE HURRICANES - "In A Gadda Da Vida" (live) (Iron Butterfly)
JOHNNY 5 & THE HELOS - "Real Wild Child" (Iggy Pop)
RAILROAD CITY MURDER MACHINES - "In the Air Tonight" (Phil Collins)
JAKOBS FERRY STRAGGLERS - "9 to 5" (Dolly Parton)

STERLING KOCH - "Sleepwalk" (Santo & Johnny)
THE DEREK WOODS BAND - "Serve Somebody" (Bob Dylan)
THE COMMONHEART - "I'm A Ram" (Al Green)
FULL KILT - "Free Bird" (Lynyrd Skynyrd)

For our next program, we return to the mailboxes to check out more new local and regional recordings that have arrived in recent days, meaning the focus will be on debuting lots of new music from the area music scene! Along the way, we will update "Local Music News," dig a "Local Music Flashback" from the archive, step "Across State Lines" to hear a tune from an independent band or artist from outside of PA, and review Little Buddy's Blue Zasu CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!" Hear the "Homegrown Rocker" this Sunday night (July 26) on Q94 Classic Rock (94.3 on your FM dial, or online at www.q94classicrock.com) and 105.9 Qwik Rock (105.9 on your FM dial, or online at www.1059qwikrock.com)!

Upcoming guests and specials:

AUGUST 16 - STONE BRIDGE BLUES BAND
OCTOBER 18 - TONY MOLLICK

(All dates are subject to changes as circumstances warrant.)
