Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the August 2 edition of "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Q94 Classic Rock (94.3 FM) in Altoona and Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via both stations' websites.

We welcomed guests into the studio this week, speaking with Donny Burns and Rob Chisholm of rising Centre County rock force Donny Burns & the 3rd Degree! We learned about the band and their story, discussed their career to date, and heard songs from their soon-to-be-released debut album! Since Donny is the son of longtime area frontman Don Burns Sr., we dug a 1991 song from Don and Donny Burns & the Sharp Turns for this week's "Local Music Flashback!" We also debuted new songs from The Roof and Broken Fayth, updated "Local Music News," and reviewed King Catfish's Americancer CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

JIM DONOVAN & THE SUN KING WARRIORS - "You Are My Everything"
BACKLASH - "Livin' Free"
DONNY BURNS & THE 3RD DEGREE - "Carousel"
THE ROOF - "Orange Mountain Daydreams" (live)
DONNY BURNS & THE 3RD DEGREE - "Out of Dodge"
ABOVE THE RADAR - "Ride"
DONNY BURNS & THE 3RD DEGREE - "Foo Fighter Weekend"
GELATINOUS CUBE - "Clockwork"
MATT OTIS & THE SOUND - "Give Me Something Real"

HOUR TWO:

BROKEN FAYTH - "Sex Kitten"
THE LEGENDARY HUCKLEBUCKS - "B-Movie"
DONNY BURNS & THE 3RD DEGREE - "Thinkin' Straight"
KING CATFISH - "Right Now"
DONNY BURNS & THE 3RD DEGREE - "Easier Said"
DONNY BURNS & THE SHARP TURNS - "Hooterville USA" (1991, Local Music Flashback)
DONNY BURNS & THE 3RD DEGREE - "Satisfied"
LOWJACK - "When You Were Mine"

Our next program will again find us exploring the mailboxes for any new local and regional recordings that have arrived recently, so expect to hear some new music! Along the way, we will update "Local Music News," dig a "Local Music Flashback" from the archive, and step "Across State Lines" to explore a song from an independent band or artist from outside of PA! Plus, we'll review not one, but TWO albums in "The Professor's CD Corner," reviewing Antonio Andrade's Something Happened CD during the first hour, and Silvertung's But, At What Cost??! CD in the second hour! Hear the "Homegrown Rocker" this Sunday night (August 9) on Q94 Classic Rock (94.3 on your FM dial, or online at www.q94classicrock.com) and 105.9 Qwik Rock (105.9 on your FM dial, or online at www.1059qwikrock.com)!

In Local Music News...

A day of live music will happen next Saturday, August 8, near Tipton. “A Day of Music” will take place at the PPG Pavilion beginning at 2 p.m., and will feature performances from the Rail Gang Rockers, Urban Myth, Greg Burley, Above the Radar and 4th Street. Food and refreshment vendors will be available. Tickets are available from show organizer Al Jones, and are $5 per person in advance, or $7 at the gate.

The Johnstown Area Heritage Association has moved the date of their inaugural Homegrown Music Festival back into fall. The event, initially scheduled for August 29, will now happen on October 17 at Johnstown’s People’s Natural Gas Park, and will feature performances from Black Cat Moan, the Ne’er Do Wells, Afro N’at, Even the Odds, Van Waylon and the Derek Woods Band.

Chris Rattie & the New Rebels have issued a new four-song EP. The EP features four songs that the group recorded and released individually in digital form, the songs “Culture War Casualty,” “Storm Song,” “Cabin Fever” and “Chaos & Stardust.” The CD can be purchased through the website www.chrisrattie.com.

The area’s music scene was saddened recently with the passing of Dennis Ivory from injuries suffered in a July 22 auto accident near Altoona. Dennis in 2006 founded popular area vocal oldies trio The SharpTones, who frequently entertained at festivals, car shows, charity events, retirement homes and more. Dennis was 61. We here at the “Homegrown Rocker” express our heartfelt condolences to Dennis' family, friends and musical colleagues.
