Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the August 9 edition of "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Q94 Classic Rock (94.3 FM) in Altoona and Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via both stations' websites.

This week, we returned to the mailboxes in search of new local and regional recordings that have arrived recently, and plenty of new music was the result! We debuted new songs from Maleena, Ted McCloskey, Norman Nardini, Savage Bliss, Anti-Corn League, The Unfortunatez, the Railroad City Murder Machines and X's For Eyes! Along the way, we updated "Local Music News," dug a 1996 "Local Music Flashback" by John Flywheel from the archive (as we reported the death of that group's singer and guitarist, Jeff Paul, during "Local Music News"), and stepped "Across State Lines" to check out a song from New Jersey's The City Limit! Plus, reviewed not one, but TWO albums in "The Professor's CD Corner," reviewing Antonio Andrade's Something Happened CD during the first hour, and Silvertung's But, At What Cost??! CD in the second hour! A busy week!

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

INSIDE OUT - "Unbreakable"
IRON WOLF - "Strong Never Broken"
MALEENA - "I Can't Find You"
CHET DENNY (CHE) - "Hustle Til the Morning"
TED McCLOSKEY - "Nonessential"
CALLIE TOMBLIN - "When Did?"
NORMAN NARDINI - "Girl with a Gun"
ANTONIO ANDRADE - "When I'm Angry"
ALYSSA HANKEY w/JASON GAMBLE - "Love Song"

HOUR TWO:

CHIP & THE CHARGE UPS - "Bark at the Bad Romance"
BLACK RIDGE - "Celebration"
SAVAGE BLISS - "Warning Signs"
SILVERTUNG - "Wise Up"
ANTI-CORN LEAGUE - "Hangin' in Defeat"
JOHN FLYWHEEL - "Nellie" (1996, Local Music Flashback)
THE CITY LIMIT - ""Wreckage" (Across State Lines)
ROADKILL - "Shut Your W---- Mouth"
THE UNFORTUNATEZ - "Zonked"
THE SNIPPED - "The Mine"
RAILROAD CITY MURDER MACHINES - "Old Ghosts"
X's FOR EYES - "Empty"
DRAGLINE - "Rock n Roll Machine"

Guests return on our next program, as we will be visited by Johnstown blues proficionados The Stone Bridge Blues Band! We'll meet the members and learn their story, and the group is bringing instruments to play some songs live for us! Along the way, we will update "Local Music News," dig a "Local Music Flashback" from the archive, and review The Hook's Moonshine & Honey CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!" Hear the "Homegrown Rocker" this Sunday night (August 16) on Q94 Classic Rock (94.3 on your FM dial, or online at www.q94classicrock.com) and 105.9 Qwik Rock (105.9 on your FM dial, or online at www.1059qwikrock.com)!

In Local Music News...

More area festival events have been cancelled for this year due to COVID-19 and restrictions imposed on public events due to the pandemic.

The annual Bedford Fall Foliage Festival, set to happen during the first two weekends in October, has been cancelled. The official announcement was made earlier in the week by the Bedford Fall Foliage Festival Committee.

The organizers of Altoona’s annual Zombietown USA festival have cancelled this year’s event, which was set to happen during the first Saturday in October.

Also cancelling for this year is the annual Harmony Grange Fair near Westover, which was to happen next month.

And some sad news from the Reading area, as Jeff Paul, the singer and guitarist for the popular 1990s Reading-based hard rock and punk band John Flywheel, passed away on Saturday, August 1 at age 63.
