Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the February 21 edition of "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Q94 Classic Rock!

We welcomed the return of our guest via phone this week, Jack Pyers! The former bassist for national recording group Dirty Looks and northeast Pennsylvania rock powerhouse group Harpo, Jack continues his solo career, and his written and recorded a number of original songs toward his next album. We discussed Jack's career and new music and aired some of the new songs. Jack also revealed a possible Dirty Looks reunion, with the group's surviving members teaming up with Dangerous Toys frontman Jason McMaster; tour dates might happen once concerts return after the COVID-19 pandemic subsides. We also debuted new songs from The Worry Knot and Blind Choice, updated "Local Music News," dug a song Jack helped create with Dirty Looks from 1988 for our "Local Music Flashback," and reviewed the latest album by Harpo alumnus and guitarist John Hahn, Undiscovered World, in "The Professor's CD Corner!" (For those who missed the program, a four-part podcast of this show is available for listening or download from Q94's website, www.q94classicrock.com. Click on "The Professor's Classroom," and then scroll down to "Homegrown Rocker Podcast" and look for the four show segments marked with the date, 022121.)

In Local Music News...

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Central Pennsylvania Music Hall Of Fame has announced the postponement of their annual Hall Of Fame Induction Ceremony from March 25 back to Thursday, July 1. The inability to have a large indoor gathering still in place led to that decision, along with bar sales still not being permitted without an accompanying meal â€" which the event’s venue, the Whitaker Center in Harrisburg, is not able to accommodate. All scheduled performances by the inductees will still take place, and all previously-sold tickets will still be honored.

Altoona’s Railroad City Murder Machines have just released their new album. The album, entitled Goodbye Songs, is currently available digitally through Amazon Music and other streaming services, and the hard copy edition of the album will be available in early March.

York-based hard rockers Small Town Titans recently received Silver Creator Awards from YouTube after getting over 100,000 subscribers to their YouTube channel.

The Altoona area music scene was saddened recently by the passing of local musician Paul Dixon on February 10 following a 5-year battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). He was 60. A Dubois native, Paul played guitar with a number of bands over the years, most recently with the Altoona-based band Inside Out and Kicked In. We at the “Homegrown Rocker” send our sincere sympathies out to Paul’s surviving family and friends.

Although we only recently became aware of this, we at the “Homegrown Rocker” want to express heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of area musician Alec McCracken, who passed away in late December after a battle with cancer at age 36. Alec most recently was the bass player with the Clearfield County-based metalcore band Deadside. A benefit in Alec’s memory took place earlier this month at McGarvey’s in Altoona, and featured the bands Offensive and Sanfranciscosextoys.

And a fundraising effort is under way to help out the wife and family of The Clarks’ guitarist and singer, Rob James. Rob’s wife, Eileen Hertweck, has been battling breast cancer during the past year, and was recently diagnosed with a form of leukemia as well. A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to help out Eileen, Rob and their family. (The link to that campaign can be found in “The Professor’s Classroom” section of Q94’s website, as well as Q94’s Facebook page.) Rob’s Clarks bandmate, Scott Blasey, will present a special “Live from the Blasement” live stream performance next Saturday evening (February 27) at 8 p.m. on Facebook to help raise funds toward the effort. (NOTE: Since the reporting of this news, we learned that Eileen Hertweck passed away from leukemia early on Saturday morning, February 27. We at the "Homegrown Rocker" send our sincerest condolences to Rob and the family, along with the Clarks organization, fans and friends.)
