Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the February 28 edition of "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Q94 Classic Rock!

We caught up on new area music recordings that have arrived in recent weeks on our latest program. We debuted lots of new music as a result; songs from Whiskey Pie, Ted McCloskey, The Austens, Kevin Correll, Zach King, Lone Crow Rebellion, Fighting Adam, South Of Clarity, Anthrophobia and Boozewa all received their first airplay on the program. We also updated "Local Music News," dug a 2002 number by Ron Showalter from the archive for a "Local Music Flashback," stepped "Across State Lines" to check out a song from Maryland metal rockers Offensive, and reviewed Wax Mekanix's Mobocracy album in "The Professor's CD Corner!" (For those who missed the program, a four-part podcast of this show is available for listening or download from Q94's website, www.q94classicrock.com. Click on "The Professor's Classroom," and then scroll down to "Homegrown Rocker Podcast" and look for the four show segments marked with the date, 022821.)

We present a mixed bag of happenings on our next program. We will introduce more new tunes from recordings that have arrived recently. We will also recap the 25th annual Millennium Music Conference, which happened virtually (online) from Harrisburg and other remote locations on February 26 and 27. And we will mark the 23rd anniversary of this program making its debut on the Q94 airwaves in early March, 1998! We will also update "Local Music News," dig into the vault for another "Local Music Flashback," step "Across State Lines" to hear music from an independent band or artist from outside the state, and review Gelatinous Cube's Technicolor Dreams album in "The Professor's CD Corner!" In Local Music News...

The organizers of the SOSPGH Concert Series, a four-week online concert series stemming from the Pittsburgh-based song project “SOS2020,” have announced that a Season Two of the concert series will take place over four successive Thursdays beginning on April 8. The first concert series, which wrapped up on February 18, featured performances from 12 bands and artists involved in the song “SOS2020,” which raises money for the National Independent Venue Association's Emergency Fund to help out Save Our Stages. The performers for the second concert series will soon be announced.

A special multi-night online benefit event is being organized to help save popular Pittsburgh area blues music venue Moondogs in Blawnox. The “Save Moondogs " Virtual Event Fundraiser” will feature performances from both local and national blues performers who have performed at Moondogs over its 30-year history. More details about the virtual event will be announced shortly.

In a surprise announcement, the Altoona-based rock band Faded Flowers has disbanded after a nearly one-and-a-half-year run on local stages, citing musical differences.

Two members of the now former Faded Flowers have started a new project. Singer and guitarist Michael Wertz and bassist and singer Hunter Karns have formed The Jaded Lips, which unveiled their first song and video, called “Where Do We Run.”
