Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the March 7 edition of "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Q94 Classic Rock!

Several things happened on our latest program. We introduced more new music from recordings that have arrived recently - introducing new songs from Royal Honey, The Great Enough, Randall Pink, Six Bar Break, Murder For Girls, Garrett Schultz, Brother Jack and Hot Dog Boy (Tom Brunner). We also recapped the 25th annual Millennium Music Conference, which happened virtually (online) from Harrisburg and other remote locations on February 26 and 27, and played music from several of the bands and artists who participated and showcased during this year's event. And we marked the 23rd anniversary of this program, which made its debut on the Q94 airwaves as the "Backyard Rocker" in early March, 1998! In addition, we updated "Local Music News," dug into the vault for a live 1989 performance track from The Rolling Rockers for this week's "Local Music Flashback" (as we remembered drummer Steve Brulia, who passed on February 24 - Thanks to Felix Kos of the Hurricanes for providing the recording!), stepped "Across State Lines" twice to hear music from New Jersey singer/songwriter Amanda Rose Riley and Georgia-based Americana artists BoDean and the Poachers, and reviewed Gelatinous Cube's Technicolor Dreams album in "The Professor's CD Corner!" A busy show! (For those who missed the program, a four-part podcast of this show is available for listening or download from Q94's website, www.q94classicrock.com. Click on "The Professor's Classroom," and then scroll down to "Homegrown Rocker Podcast" and look for the four show segments marked with the date, 030721.)

In Local Music News...

The Altoona area music community mourned the passing of Steve Brulia on Wednesday, February 24, following a battle with cancer. Steve provided the beats behind many area bands over the past five decades, including the Rolling Rockers, FM, The Verge, Sidestep, Johnny Danger, Cosmic Lounge, and most recently, his duo with Matt Burns, Bodacious B. He also took part in a number of jam nights, and was an ardent supporter of the area music scene.

Eileen Hertweck, the wife of Rob James of The Clarks, passed away ON Saturday, February 27, following her battle with leukemia. A GoFundMe page had been established to help with Eileen's medical expenses. Scott Blasey of The Clarks hosted a special edition of his “Live from the Blasement” live stream performance on Facebook on the evening of Feb. 27 to pay tribute to Eileen and raise funds to help Rob and their family.

Two benefit shows have been scheduled for later this month to raise funds toward JOOS Cafe in Altoona and the Mass N Tha Grass music and art festival happening later this summer. The dates for the benefit events are Tuesday evenings, March 16 and 30, with more events to be announced.

Local popular music duo Raining Blue announced this past week that they are going their separate ways after ten years of performing on area stages. Walt Yatta and Amy Williamson thanked their fans and the venues that hosted them for the support over the past decade.

Popular Reading-based dance and party band Go Go Gadjet has announced the addition of guitarist Pete McCartney to their line-up.

The Allegheny Ukulele Collective has announced the date for this year's Virtual Allegheny Ukulele Soiree event. The Soiree will take place on Saturday, May 1. The online event will feature skill workshops and performances from ukulele artists such as Aldrine Guerrero, Heidi Swedberg, Daniel Ward, Neil Chin, The Naked Waiters, Amber Rozel, Melissa Nannen, Mim and more.
