Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the February 6 edition of "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Q94 Classic Rock!

This week, we spotlighted more new recordings from the area music scene that arrived in recent days and weeks, and we debuted lots of new music! We introduced new songs from Paper Plants, Derek Woods Band, Robert A. Wagner (of Pittsburgh's The Little Wretches), Steve Treado & Natty Lou Race, Matt Otis & the Sound, Mark DeRose & the Dreadnoughts, D-Bo, The Snipped, Tom Nevers Field, Eternal Frequency and Valerian Sun! We also updated "Local Music News," dug a 2006 tune by Grade E from the archive for a "Local Music Flashback," stepped "Across State Lines" to hear music from Cumberland, Maryland's Black Guy Fawkes, and reviewed Don't Panic's Dark Horse album in "The Professor's CD Corner!" (For those who missed the program, a four-part podcast of this show is available for listening or download from Q94's website, www.q94classicrock.com. Click on "The Professor's Classroom," and then scroll down to "Homegrown Rocker Podcast" and look for the four show segments marked with the date, 020622.)

In Local Music News...

Chip & the Charge Ups have announced the addition of their new drummer, as Nolan Allen takes over behind the drum kit. Nolan had filled in with the group during a few shows last year, and now will be the group’s permanent drummer. Chip & the Charge Ups have been working on new songs, and are honing seven of them to be introduced during live shows in the spring.

Harrisburg hard rockers Steel are seeking a new frontman, after the group’s longtime singer, Chris Redding, announced his departure from the group to scale back his overall onstage endeavors and focus attention on singing with his other group, Harrisburg’s Road Case.

Sad news struck the regional music scene this past week with the passings of two musicians. Shane Burger, former guitar player for the Harrisburg-based 80s metal and arena rock tribute band LeadFoot, passed away unexpectedly last weekend. Shane was a gifted guitar shredder, whose style was often compared to Randy Rhoads.

And Dave Smith, known as the singer for Pittsburgh-based Rush tribute group Distant Signals, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday. We at the “Homegrown Rocker” express our heartfelt condolences to the families, friends and musical colleagues of both musicians.
