Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the January 29 edition of "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Q94 Classic Rock (www.q94classicrock.com), and from 10 PM to midnight on 107.1 and 101.3 Jack FM (www.1071jack.fm)!

Thanks to our guests in the studio - singer Jeff Glace and guitarist Chuck Lavera of Altoona nu-metal rockers Hate Grenade (www.hategrenade.com) for stopping by to update us on their latest happenings - which include the release of their brand new album, iSociety and their multi-state concert tour in support of that album! We discussed Hate Grenade's career, music and the new album, and checked out songs from the album! We also debuted another new song from The Heathen Parade, updated "Local Music News," and dug out a 2009 number by Altoona's This Calling for our "Local Music Flashback!" (For those who missed the program, a four-part podcast of this show is available for listening or download from Q94's website, www.q94classicrock.com. Click on "The Professor's Classroom," and then scroll down to "Homegrown Rocker Podcast" and look for the four show segments marked with the date, 012923.)

Here is this week's playlist:

Guests will be a part of our next program, as Altoona-based punk/metal duo The BSXpress joins us in the studio! We'll meet the members and learn the group's story, discuss their music, and hear songs from their CD Commuter! We'll also update "Local Music News" and pull out a "Local Music Flashback" from the archive! In Local Music News...

Images Of Eden has announced their first European concert tour. The group will be opening for W.A.S.P.’s 40 Years Live World Tour during April and May. The tour includes concert dates in Sweden, Norway, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Czech Republic, Slovenia, Romania and Bulgaria.

Lancaster-based hard rockers Eternal Frequency are adding another major rock festival to their resume, announcing that they will be performing at this year's Blue Ridge Rock Festival, which takes place in southern Virginia from September 7-10. Eternal Frequency was added as an unsigned talent search winner. They join a festival bill that includes Pantera, Shinedown, Megadeth, Chevelle, Black Label Society, Avatar, Drowning Pool and many more.

Philadelphia-based “train song” acoustic folk and pop duo Artese & Toad are closing the book after a 30-plus year career. Perry Artese made the announcement that he is stepping away from music, citing frustrations with the current streaming age and music industry. The duo " Perry and partner Tom “Toad” Dimeo " headlined a railroad themed musical evening at the ArtsAltoona Center in late March, and won the top two places in last year’s Pennsylvania Heritage Songwriting Contest (PHSC) with their songs “Altoona” and “Ghost on the Track.”

Speaking of the PHSC, the Pennsylvania Heritage Songwriting Contest is again accepting entries for its 2023 edition. Songs must have a Pennsylvania namesake, theme or reference, and can be about a location, person, event or story tied to Pennsylvania. Deadline for entries is May 15. Winners for the top three songs will receive cash prizes plus the opportunity to perform their winning songs during the 2023 Smoked Country Jam Bluegrass Festival, which takes place June 15 through 17 at Quiet Oaks Campground near Cross Fork (north of Renovo). For more information, visit the website www.smokedcountryjam.com/phsc/.

That's a look at “Local Music News.” Bands and artists with news items to report on the program may email their information to homegrownrocker@gmail.com.
