Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the October 17 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7.

It was a busy week on the “Backyard Rocker!” During the first hour, we focused on the realm of rock theater, as we were visited by cast members from Allegheny Highlands Regional Theatre’s production of “The Rocky Horror Show,” happening Oct. 21-23 and 28-30 at the Cresson Lake Playhouse. Thanks to director Lori Howsare (who also plays “Lips” in the production), actors Bret Sarlouis (“Frank’N’Furter”) and Rob Decker (“Brad”), actress Molly Riva (“Janet”) and musical director John Charney (Wine Of Nails); all for sharing insight on this production of “Rocky Horror.” For ticket information, call (814) 472-4333.

In addition, we checked on local music news, visited the local music archives for tunes from The Front (who performed a reunion show in Altoona the night before) and Of Sound Mind, and reviewed 3 Broken Dolls’ “What Happened to the American Dream?” CD on “The Professor’s CD Corner.” We also debuted new tunes from Sticker, Quagmire Swim Team, Fith and Fearing Mind.

Here is this week’s playlist:

HOUR ONE:

THE FRONT – “Lay Down Your Arms” (1989, Local Music Flashback)
TED McCLOSKEY – “Looking Good in the Coffin”
JOHN CHARNEY & WHITE MOJO – “I Put A Spell On You”
VS. THE EARTH – “Carolina Sky” (live)
WINE OF NAILS – “Frenzy”
STICKER – “Empty Bottles”

HOUR TWO:

QUAGMIRE SWIM TEAM – “Metal Song”
FLIGHT 19 – “Migraine”
3 BROKEN DOLLS – “Don’t Wanta Fade Away in a Bottle”
FITH – “Sun to Set”
VICIOUS CYCLE – “Downtime”
FEARING MIND – “Portrait in Self-Hate”
OF SOUND MIND – “Down in a Hole” (1996, Local Music Flashback)
PROJECT TWELVE(34) – “Restless and Rusted”
POPTART MONKEYS – “Enemy”

This Sunday night, our guest will be Dave Buzard. A former guitarist for the Clarion-based rock band Ask A Stranger, Dave currently is the mastermind behind Project Twelve(34), a studio project in which Dave explores the techno and electronica frontiers. We’ll get insight from Dave about his creation, and hear tracks from Project Twelve(34)’s recently released debut CD, “Small Eternity;” plus listeners will have chances to win a copy! Project Twelve(34) is in the spotlight when Dave Buzard joins us, this Sunday night on the “Backyard Rocker!”

In Local Music News…

Guitarist Sterling Koch is set to release his next solo CD on Nov. 16. The CD will feature Sterling playing steel guitar, which he took up playing after suffering a neck injury earlier this year. The album will be part vocal and part instrumental, and will feature guest appearances by George Grund on keys, Rick Young (Duck Soup Blues Band) on harmonica, V.I.H. bandmate Larry Baudoin on drums, and vocalists Debra Hydock and Jennifer Hollister.

In addition, the V.I.H. Blues Band has announced that they are in search of a new bass player. Current bassist Frank Ciambra has announced that he plans to leave the band to devote more time to his family.

Two former members of Double Take are back with a new acoustic project. Double Take alumni Denny and Ken Pompa have teamed up with Northern Cambria singer/guitarist Jerry Carnevali. The new acoustic trio, Jerry’s Fault, performs classic rock favorites and a few original songs; they debuted earlier this month.

After nearly two years on area stages, the band PnEumatic has announced that they are disbanding. The group has been inactive on area stages since early summer. Look for band members to resurface in new projects.

And the Centre County rock band Whitefisch has a new singer. The group has announced that Jason Hampton has taken over lead vocal duties. The group, formed last year from the ashes of E.S. Whitefisch, continues to play show dates in Centre County.
