Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the October 31 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7.

This week was the annual Halloween Special, where we featured songs by area bands and artists with titles and themes relating to Halloween. We heard songs about ghosts, spirits, monsters, masks, witches, coffins, graveyards and more. We also featured back-to-back songs by two area “Monster” bands, Coinmonster and the defunct Saucemonster. Along the way, we updated Local Music News, and reviewed White Witch’s CD “The Power” in the Professor’s CD Corner.” And we debuted new tunes from The Jellybricks and Vicious Cycle.

Here is this week’s playlist:

In Local Music News…

Two upcoming benefit shows to talk about. First, on Friday night, November 12, a special benefit show to help out area musician Jeff Leeper and his family will take place at City Limits in Altoona. Jeff and his family lost their home and belongings to fire earlier this month, and proceeds from the show will help them out. The show will feature performances from Bad Daze, Hair Force One and another band or two to be announced. The show will start at 8 PM.

And on Saturday, November 20, Pennsylvania Musician Magazine and City Limits will present the annual Toys for Tots benefit show, with toys and proceeds going to the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots program to help out needy area children this upcoming holiday season. The show will start at 8 PM, and feature performances from Shift, Felix & the Hurricanes, Third Standard and In. Donation at the door will be either a new, unopened toy of $5 or greater value, or a straight $7 donation.

If you were driving around the Altoona area this past Thursday night during Trick or Treat, and wondering where that live blues music was coming from, it was musical tricks and treats courtesy of Felix & the Hurricanes. The group, decked in Halloween outfits, loaded their gear and a generator aboard a 22-foot flatbed truck, and drove around the Altoona area, serenading trick or treaters with Halloween favorites such as “Monster Mash” and tossing candy out to the kids. The group also drove a lap around the Logan Valley Mall, and made a cameo appearance during Q94’s remote broadcast at Roberts Beverages. According to the band, since this year's trick-or-treat tour was such a success, there will be a sequel next year.
