Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the December 5 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7.

Thanks to Sean Clever, Sean Grove and Klaus Funk of Greencastle-based modern rockers Josa Step for making the roadtrip in to enlighten us about the band, their music, career, live show and more. We heard songs from the group’s latest album, “Pearls,” plus several newer songs which will be on the group’s next release. We gave away CD’s, T-shirts and stickers to lucky listeners. And the musicians brought along acoustic guitars and performed two songs live on the air as well.

Along the way, we updated Local Music News, and reviewed the new “Central-PA Christmas Compilation” CD on The Professor’s CD Corner. And we introduced new tunes from Lords-a-Leaping, The Marauders, Hi-Tyde and Bloomsburg to Bangladesh. Thanks to everyone who listened in; we know we had some competition from the sporting world this night (Go Steelers!), so thanks to the listeners who chose the “Backyard Rocker,” or turned down the TV sound and turned us up!

Here is this week’s playlist:

HOUR ONE:

FELIX & THE HURRICANES – “Backyard Rocker”
THE RUDYS – “My Backyard”
JOSA STEP – “Hope”
LORDS-A-LEAPING – “Christmas Is Near”
JOSA STEP – “Alone”
THIRD STANDARD – “Denied”
JOSA STEP – “Marigold” (performed live on the air)
THE MARAUDERS – “She Put A Curse On Me”

HOUR TWO:

SPITSHINE – “Even More”
HI-TYDE – “I Will Find a Way”
JOSA STEP – “Hands On Wings”
NEGATIVE SPACE – “I’ll Be Home”
JOSA STEP – “Rainbow Hopeful”
BLOOMSBURG TO BANGLADESH – “She’s a Zombie”
JOSA STEP – “Falling Down” (performed live on the air)
JOSA STEP – “Show’s Over”

In Local Music News…

A few more area bands have parted or are parting ways. Western PA-based power trio Simon Sez has disbanded after ten years of rocking the state’s stages. The group played their final show in late September at a Brookville venue. Singer/guitarist Jeff Mucci, bassist/singer Jamie Ross and drummer/singer Mark Neiswonger thank everyone who has supported the group over the years.

Harrisburg-based techno rockers Suture Seven have announced that after six years, three albums, four videos and songs on soundtracks and compilations, the group is going their separate ways. The group will close out their tenure with one final show next Friday night in the Harrisburg area.

The Harrisburg-based rock band Vicious Cycle is looking for a new singer, as current frontman Jack Lockard is leaving the group to relocate out of the area.

In band personnel moves, Bellwood rockers The Rudys have expanded into a five-piece band after the addition of some new members. Former Coil/Madcheddar drummer Dave Wessels has taken over duties behind the drum kit, while former Bleach Black/Ground Zero/Razkal singer Rich Cupillari has taken over lead vocal duties. The Rudys kicked off the Savin’ Sanity Benefit at Crowbar in State College this past Tuesday night, with proceeds helping out the VH1 Save The Music Foundation.

And another local Christmas music CD has been issued this holiday season. The “Lords-a-Leaping Vol. II” CD features new original Christmas compositions and a few updated holiday favorites. Musicians involved include members of Loudmouth, The Worry Knot, Dive, One Less Tear, and Blind Jonny Death. John Cimino will be joining us to discuss the new “Lords-a-Leaping” album on the 3-hour “Backyard Rocker” Christmas Special on December 19. Lords-a-Leaping is performing the second of two holiday season charity shows featuring music from their two CD’snext Sunday evening, December 12 at the CAST Theatre in Clearfield. Proceeds from the show benefits Community Action, a charity that helps Centre County residents with food and heating assistance.
