Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the December 12 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7.

Thanks to Fat Vinny & the Wiseguys, first for being this week’s in-studio guests, and second for the wings – musical guests bearing hot wings are always welcome in the House that Rock Built! It was a fun two hours as Fat Vinny & the Wiseguys debuted three new songs from their forthcoming third album, entitled “Tight Play” (a poker term). We also heard some live footage from the Wiseguys’ set at this past summer’s 14th annual “End Of Summer Jam” benefit concert. The group enlightened us on their latest happenings since their last visit a year ago, and discussed the new album, live show and more. Along the way, we checked on Local Music News, and reviewed the new local Christmas CD “Lords a Leaping Volume II” in “The Professor’s CD Corner.” And on top of all of that, we debuted new music from The Marauders, Bridges And A Bottle, Katsu and Sterling Koch, plus new holiday tunes from Sherri Mullen and Blind Jonny Death. Yes, it was a busy week!

Here is this week’s playlist:

HOUR ONE:

NORMAN NARDINI – “Rock and Roll City”
THE MARAUDERS – “Last Call”
FAT VINNY & THE WISEGUYS – “Barroom Floor”
FAT VINNY & THE WISEGUYS – “Lucky Charm”
SHERRI MULLEN – “Please Come Home for Christmas”
FAT VINNY & THE WISEGUYS – “Before You ‘Cuse Me” (performed live 8/21/04 at 14th “End Of Summer Jam,” Cresson)
BRIDGES AND A BOTTLE – “18”

HOUR TWO:

KATSU – “She Took”
FAT VINNY & THE WISEGUYS – “I’ll Be Home for Christmas”
BLIND JONNY DEATH (LORDS A LEAPING) – “The Greatest Gift”
FAT VINNY & THE WISEGUYS – “Like a Mule”
STERLING KOCH – “Good Bye Pork Pie Hat”
FAT VINNY & THE WISEGUYS – “Move It On Over” (performed live 8/21/04 at 14th “End Of Summer Jam,” Cresson)
FAT VINNY & THE WISEGUYS – “My Girl Or My Guitar”

This Sunday night is the annual “Backyard Rocker” Christmas Special! Starting at a special time of 7 PM, the Christmas Special will feature three hours of Christmas music from bands and artists from the local area and across the state; including both original Christmas compositions and interpretations of holiday classics! Along the way, we will be spotlighting two local Christmas albums released this year, and be joined by guests to discuss those albums. For the first 90 minutes, our in-studio guests will be John Cimino and Michael Hughes, two musicians involved in the new “Lords a Leaping Volume II” Christmas CD. During the latter 90 minutes, we will be joined via phone by Terry Selders, the executive producer of “The Central-PA Christmas Compilation” CD. We’ll hear tunes from both CD’s, plus lucky listeners will have chances to win copies of each! So break out the eggnog and cookies, and plan to trim the tree with some local Christmas music on the “Backyard Rocker” Christmas Special, this Sunday night starting at 7 PM!

In Local Music News…

State College’s The Nightcrawlers are continuing work on their debut album, which is expected out early next year. The group has posted an mp3 of one of the songs from the forthcoming album on their website, www.the-nightcrawlers.com.

More band break-ups to report…Punxsutawney punk rockers The Mad Cows have decided to go their separate ways after ten years of spreading “farm-core” across Western PA stages. Some new band projects are expected to rise from the ashes.

Altoona’s No Dice played their final show in late October before going their separate ways. Singer/guitarist Jimmy Skinny is working on new song material, and plans to relocate to Chicago in the spring. Meanwhile, guitarist Jonny Elle and drummer Mikey Millions are reportedly forming a new band project. More details as they become available.

To avoid confusion with a national band already using the name, Vertigo is changing their name. The reported new name of the group is Signals Lost.

Hot on the heels of releasing their second CD, Midnight Rhythm, and appearing on local television show The Underground TV, area roots rockers The Marauders will be recording the song "What's Your Game" for a Ramones Tribute Album to be released early next year by Germany's Shock Rock Records. More details about that project are forthcoming.
