Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the April 3 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7.

The inmates almost took over the asylum this week, as our guests in the studio were those wild and wacky Lewistown rockers, Wiskerbisket. We met the band’s two newest members, guitarist Jon Benevento and bassist Mike Swartz; and we got inside the group, their music, and their crazed, freewheeling live show. We also heard tracks from the group’s new CD, “Something New.”

Along the way, we updated Local Music News, and in The Professor’s CD Corner, we reviewed Urinal Puck Ministries’ CD “Greatest Hits Vol. Two: Twisted Tales from the Fallopian Tube.” Plus we debuted new tunes from Suns Of Asylum and Rectifier.

Here is this week’s playlist:

HOUR ONE:

THE MARAUDERS – “Last Call”
THE RUDYS – “Country Cadillac”
WISKERBISKET – “Just Like”
SUNS OF ASYLUM – “Can’t Let Her Go”
WISKERBISKET – “Free”
A BROKEN UNION – “Powerlines Over Crosswalks”
WISKERBISKET – “Killer”
RECTIFIER – “Drama Queen”

HOUR TWO:

WAY DOWN EAST – “Modern Day Outlaws”
WISKERBISKET – “Alright”
URINAL PUCK MINISTRIES – “Mommy Can I Dance with the Devil”
WISKERBISKET – “Skank”
FLORD – “The Next Level”
WISKERBISKET – “Dukes Of Hazzard”
EMILY’S TOYBOX – “Dear”
WISKERBISKET – “Be My Lover”

This coming Sunday night, our guests in the studio will be A Broken Union. Featuring former members of No Refill and Ethergy, we’ll get inside this new band, their music, live show, objectives and more. In addition, we’ll present a special memorial tribute to local guitarist Jeff Wallack, who passed away suddenly this past weekend – featuring some of his guitar performances with Rapid Fire and more. A Broken Union in studio, this Sunday night on the “Backyard Rocker!”

Forthcoming guests and specials include:

In local music news…

The 15th annual Crazy Fest, the amateur talent show organized and hosted by local entertainer Dennie Huber, will take place on Sunday afternoon, April 24, at the Greenwood Firehall in Altoona. Crazy Fest is an amateur talent show and contest for young amateur entertainers 21 and under, who will perform and compete for trophies, awards, prizes and their moment in the spotlight in front of a friendly, supportive crowd and atmosphere. The event begins at 1 PM, and admission is $2 at the door. Young entertainers of all sorts are welcome to enter; musicians, singers, amateur bands, actors, dancers, twirlers, or other talented performers. For an application to compete or other information about Crazy Fest, contact Dennie Huber at (814) 942-2516.

An update on former Sage and Fuse singer Crystal Cameron: Crystal is still based in the Dallas, Texas, area; and is getting set to release a new R&B-flavored album, “Crystallyzed,” through Fella-Ship Productions. Crystal will be returning to the local area this summer to play one and possibly more shows. One date that has been announced will be an all ages show at the Bavarian Hall in Altoona on Saturday, July 30. Crystal will sing, backed by a group of local musicians including Randy Rutherford, Rick Wertz, Bob Scholl, Clint Carothers, Harold Hayford, and Ric Criste. More details on this show as they become available. To hear samples of Crystal’s current music, check out her pages on the websites www.soundclick.com and www.fella-ship.com.

State College’s Nightcrawlers are searching for a new bass player, to replace Mike Leitzel, who is leaving the band in early May to pursue his academic career in Europe over the summer and next school year. The group will be working with a temporary bassist until a permanent one is found. Any bass players who would like to look into the Nightcrawlers can visit the group’s website at www.the-nightcrawlers.com, or look for their link on Rockpage, www.rockpage.net.

Congratulations to Roadkill guitarist Sean McCracken and his wife, recently becoming proud parents. Sean has taken indefinite leave from Roadkill to take care of his new family additions; former Roadkill guitarist Ryan Dunkle has rejoined the group and is playing guitar at the group’s shows.

Get well wishes go out to Opposition lead singer Mike “Iceman” Bryant, who underwent back surgery in Pittsburgh this past week. Get well wishes also go out to Pennsylvania Musician Magazine publisher Whitey Noll, on the mend from an appendectomy.
