Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the April 17 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7.

Thanks to our guest this week, Dustin Burley, for an entertaining and insightful two hours! A rapidly rising name on the Altoona music scene, Dustin informed us about his music and career to date, and his current performances as both a solo artist and in his new jam ensemble, Gin And Juice. We heard a number of songs from Dustin’s debut demo CD, and we heard Dustin perform a number of his original songs live on the air.

We also aired an interview with Dennie Huber, the organizer and emcee for the 15th Annual “Crazy Fest” Amateur Youth Talent Show. This year’s “Crazy Fest” takes place next Sunday afternoon, April 24, starting at 1 PM at the Greenwood Firehall in Altoona. “Crazy Fest” allows young amateur entertainers 21 and under the opportunity to sing, play or strut their stuff on stage and compete for trophies, awards and other prizes, plus showcase their talents in front of a friendly and supportive audience. Youngsters wishing to perform at “Crazy Fest” can obtain an application from Dennie Huber by calling (814) 942-2516.

In addition, we updated Local Music News, and reviewed the self-titled CD from Searching For Gladys on “The Professor’s CD Corner.” And we debuted new songs from Grinning Mob, Backstreet Law and Doug White. Needless to say, a busy week!

Here is this week’s playlist:

In Local Music News…

If you are a fan of singer-songwriters, you’ll want to mark the weekend of June 11-12 down on your calendar. That is the weekend for the 4th annual PA Singer Songwriter Festival, a two day event showcasing independent singer-songwriters from Pennsylvania and across the country. Organized by Bloomsburg singer-songwriter Dave Blackledge, this year’s festival will take place at Shangri-La On The Creek Campground near Lewisburg. Some of the performers at this year’s festival include Bret Alexander of the Badlees, Sherri Mullen, Hannah Bingman, K8, Denise Barbarita from New York City, Joel Rafael from San Diego, festival organizer Dave Blackledge and more. Admission to the festival is $5 for one day or $8 for both days, and children under 12 are admitted for free. For more information about the festival, you can click on the link on Dave Blackledge’s website, www.daveblackledge.com.

It looks like Johnstown rockers Pivot are going to give it another go…The group’s remaining four members – singer Mark Lux, guitarists Mike Lepley and Jay Snyder, and bassist Mike Wozniak, have indicated during a recent update of their band page on Rockpage.net that they are searching for a new drummer, and plan to return to area stage action soon.

The eastern PA-based band Mr. Pink has added a second singer, and now have two women fronting the band. Katie joins singer Holly and expands Mr. Pink’s lineup to five members strong.

The Scranton-based rock band Idol Eyez had a costly adventure recently. After the group’s van broke down, they used a truck and a U-haul trailer to transport gear to all their shows this past month. During the first night of this new arrangement, the defective U-haul trailer's door opened, and some of Idol Eyez’ sound system fell onto the highway and was struck by several cars.

In recording news, The Nightcrawlers have finished work on their debut EP, and have sent the CD off to be duplicated.

The new full length CD from Backstreet Law is finished and is being pressed. The album’s title will be Frustrated. An official release date will be announced in the next few weeks on the group’s website, www.backstreetlaw.com, along with CD Release party and availability information.
