Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the May 15 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7.

Thanks to Altoona’s Sidestep for providing the listeners of central PA with an enjoyable two hours. We met the members of Sidestep and learned what the group brought to the live stage, heard tracks from their recently-recorded 4-song EP, and heard the group perform two songs live on the air. We also checked on Local Music News, and reviewed the new Fat Vinny & the Wiseguys CD, “Tight Play,” in “The Professor’s CD Corner.” We also debuted a new song from Shades Of June.

Here is this week’s playlist:

HOUR ONE:

FELIX & THE HURRICANES – “Backyard Rocker”
JOHN CHARNEY & WHITE MOJO – “Get My Mojo Workin’”
SIDESTEP – “Sidesteppin’”
THE NIGHTCRAWLERS – “Black Hole”
SIDESTEP – “Are You Gonna Go My Way”
V.I.H. – “Can’t Judge a Book By Lookin’ At The Cover” (live)
SIDESTEP – “Bad Day” (performed live on the air)
SHADES OF JUNE – “Reflection”

HOUR TWO:

SHERRI MULLEN – “Home of the Free”
SIDESTEP – “Spirit In The Sky”
FAT VINNY & THE WISEGUYS – “Just Some Things”
SIDESTEP – “When I Get Drunk” (performed live on the air)
FLIGHT 19 – “Unlock”
HOMER’S ARMY – “Travelin’ Band”
SIDESTEP – “Train Train”

This coming Sunday night, our guests in the studio will be the Johnstown-based rock band Shades Of June. We’ll find out what is new with Shades Of June, hear some new recorded tracks from the group, plus they’ll be bringing instruments and performing live in the studio. We’ll also check on Local Music News, feature tunes from other area bands and artists and more! Shades Of June pays us a visit, this Sunday night on the “Backyard Rocker!”

In Local Music News…

Pivot reunited and returned to action with a benefit show in the Johnstown area this past weekend. The show, in memory of the group’s long time friend Josh Moore, took place at the Boulevard Grill in Johnstown. Proceeds from the show went to a scholarship fund in Josh's name. Josh lost his life in a recent motorcycle accident.

Following up on Halestorm’s signing with McGathy Promotions several weeks ago; after soul searching and consideration, the group has decided not to change their name; that decision largely bolstered by the majority of their fan base. So Halestorm will remain Halestorm.

A number of band personnel moves, breakups and formations in local music news this week…

The York-based rock band Screamapillar has apparently called it quits. The group’s email service reported that all the group’s remaining shows have been cancelled, and the group’s website (screamapillarrocks.com) has been discontinued.

A changing of bass players again for the Victory In Heaven Blues Band; Bruce Kugler has left the band to pursue other interests. Replacing him will be guitarist/singer Sterling Koch’s daughter, Kate. According to the group’s email newsletter, Kate’s addition will cause a small shift in the group’s musical direction, with more of a funky twist. V.I.H. is continuing to write towards their third studio album; more information on the album as it becomes available.

Two former members of Coil and Madcheddar are in a new band. Guitarist Josh Crownover and drummer Dave Wessels have formed a four-piece band called Anything Jane. The group is currently playing shows in and around Huntingdon County.

From the ashes of Harrisburg area hard rockers Num, guitarist Shawn Smith has formed a new band, Between the Lines. Their sound is described as modern rock; the group performs their first show on June 4 at a venue in Landisville.

Members of eastern PA party bands 404 and Tin Pan Alley have joined forces in a new band called Misbehave. The band features former Tin Pan Alley lead singer Chrissy, guitarist Adam of 404 and several other musicians. The group made their debut on stage earlier this month.

Two other former members of 404, singer Kat and guitarist Mike, are involved in a new, as-yet unnamed original music project. More information about this as it becomes available.
