Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the June 12 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7.

This week, we featured a former area musician who is achieving some success in the music industry since leaving the area. When he played on area stages, John Fleming was the singer and bassist for Dead Reckoning in the early 90’s, and the singer and guitarist for Tucker Barton in the late 90’s. Since then, John has traveled around the country, eventually arriving in Asheville, North Carolina, changing his handle to Fisher Meehan, and forming the band Drugmoney. Drugmoney released their debut CD, “Mtn Cty Jnk” (“Mountain City Junk,” named after a junkyard here in Altoona) early last year; the album received strong reviews and even landed the group in the pages of “Spin” and “Esquire” magazines. Last summer, performing solo, Fisher opened several shows for Collective Soul. According to Fisher, Ed Roland of Collective Soul will be producing Drugmoney’s second disc, being recorded this summer.

We aired an interview we recorded with Fisher during his recent visit to Altoona. Fisher enlightened us on his career, his current band, and their future plans. We heard a number of songs from Drugmoney’s “Mtn Cty Jnk” CD, and Fisher performed a couple of songs live in the studio. We also broke out music from one of Fisher’s former bands, Dead Reckoning, for a “Local Music Flashback.” We also introduced new songs from Nitekast, Fault Line, The Commercials, Mr. Pink and Dropout High.

We also spoke briefly with Missy Miller, one of the organizers of the 2nd annual Relay For Life Band Jam, which takes place this coming Saturday, June 18, at the Shade Gap Picnic Grounds in Shade Gap (Huntingdon County). The show will feature performances from No Warning Shot, Gypsy & Crazymoon, Soundrive, Gift of the Hour, Sound Of Silence, Brianna Sheeder, Scream, Doug Forshey, Spitshine, Big Bang Theory, and reunion performances from Pipedown and Bashful. Admission is $5 for ages 13 yearrs & up, free for ages 12 & under. The show is sponsored by the Fast Trackers Relay for Life team with all proceeds benefiting the American Cancer Society.
