Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the July 17 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7.

Philadelphia singer/songwriter/guitarist Phyllis Heitjan was embarking on a vacation trip and tour of western and midwestern states; and there just happened to be an open date on the “Backyard Rocker” coinciding with her travel itinerary through the Altoona area. Two plus two came together, and Phyllis was our guest this week! Thanks to Phyllis for sharing her music and world with us this week; we heard songs from Phyllis’ self-titled debut CD, and Phyllis brought along a guitar and played four songs live on the air! You can find out more about Phyllis by visiting her website, www.diamondrockmusic.com.

We also updated Local Music News, and debuted new tunes from Deja Vudoo, Spoonchatter and Blind Jonny Death.

In Local Music News…

It’s now official. The band Halestorm announced this past week that they have signed a recording contract with prominent major label Atlantic Records. Halestorm has been under a producer’s agreement with notable Grammy-nominated producer/engineer David Ivory (Silvertide, The Roots, Erykah Badu, Patti Labelle, etc.) since August 2003. Early word is that Halestorm will record and issue their debut recording for Atlantic next spring.

A change behind the drum kit for Mount Union 80's rockers Scream, as Greg Reigle has exited the band, and Don Hetrick is being worked into the roster. Don previously drummed for Bashful during that band's early years, and is returning to active drumming after a 15-year layoff.

A benefit show will be taking place July 30 at the Bedford Elks to help out a 9 year old Bedford girl, Kelsey Diehl, who needs a kidney transplant. The show will begin at 6 PM with a dinner and music from acoustic performers the Stone River Gypsies. The rest of the evening will feature performances from Never To Return, Wired and two more bands to be named. Groups interested in filling the two remaining slots can inquire by emailing witchhunt@earthlink.net.
