Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the October 9 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7.

It was another memorable installment of the “Backyard Rocker” Acoustic Jam Special, where we invite several area musicians to bring along acoustic instruments into the studio and let ‘er rip live on the air! This time, it was a Johnstown area all-star jam extravaganza as guests John Charney, Dave Distefano and Grinning Mob brought the instruments and gear, performed songs individually, and teamed up for a hot and fiery finale! There were a few minor technical issues early on, but once the live performances began, it was a great time! Thanks to all the musicians for rocking “The House That Rock Built;” we’ll present Acoustic Jam Special 5 next March!

Along the way, we featured an interview with Michelle Grove, one of the organizers of the annual Kevin Dare Memorial Benefit Concert, which takes place this Tuesday evening, Oct. 11, at Crowbar in State College. Kevin Dare was a Penn State pole vaulter who lost his life during a track meet in 2002. The Kevin Dare Foundation works to improve safety for track and field events, and also provides scholarships to aspiring Penn State and high school track and field students. This year’s benefit concert will feature performances from Mike Jacober, Amy K. & Love Stomp, In, Halestorm, Poptart Monkeys and Giants Of Science. Tickets are $5 in advance or $7 at the door, and the show is all ages. Advance tickets can be purchased at www.ticketweb.com. For additional information, visit the Kevin Dare website, www.kevindare.com.

We also reviewed Rhyne McCormick’s new CD, Gold Dust, in the “Professor’s CD Corner” (the review will be posted on Q94’s website, www.wbxq.com, later this week), and we debuted a new song from Five-2-One. Wow, what a week!

Here is this week’s playlist:

HOUR ONE:

THIRD STANDARD – “Karma Clean”
FIVE-2-ONE – “Hang On Sloopy”
DAVE DISTEFANO w/GRINNING MOB – “Light the Fire, Get Down”
SILVER SUNDAY – “Cathedral Lights”
JOHN CHARNEY – “Forever Endeavor” (performed live on air)
JOHN CHARNEY – “Sojourn” (performed live on air)
JOHN CHARNEY – “Manhattan South” (performed live on air)
HALESTORM – “I Bleed”

HOUR TWO:

WIDE OPEN – “Polish My Chrome”
DAVE DISTEFANO – “The Story of Samson and Delilah” (performed live on air)
DAVE DISTEFANO – “Relijah” (performed live on air)
GRINNING MOB – “Do Right” (performed live on air)
GRINNING MOB – “Aqui Como Alla” (performed live on air)
RHYNE McCORMICK – “Train”
ALL-STAR JAM (ALL MUSICIANS) – “Slacker/Tombstone Blues” (performed live on air)

Next Sunday night, John Charney returns to the “Backyard Rocker,” only this time to talk Rocky Horror! John is the musical director for Allegheny Highlands Regional Theatre’s production of “The Rocky Horror Show;” we’ll speak with John, the show’s director, and possibly some cast members, and get the lowdown on what should be a fun production happening at the Cresson Lake Playhouse the last two weekends in October! John Charney discusses Rocky Horror, next Sunday night on the “Backyard Rocker!”
