Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the January 8 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7.

This week, for our first guest of 2006, we got caught up on the career and music of former Fuse and Sage singer Crystal Cameron (www.crystalcameron.net). A Claysburg native who now calls Dallas, Texas home, Crystal recently released her new album, Crystallyzed. We listened to tracks from Crystallyzed, and several lucky listeners called in to win copies of the album. One of those listeners, Mark Fasick of Juniata, was especially lucky, his name was drawn at the end of the program to win a Sony Walkman mp3 player, courtesy of Crystal’s record label, Fella-Ship Productions. Crystal discussed her new music and career, and reflected on her beginnings here in central PA. We also flashed back to 1997 to hear one of the songs Crystal recorded with Fuse, “Diamondback.” We also celebrated the Steelers’ wild card playoff victory over Cincinnati with the Groove Junkies’ “Steelers Fight Song” to kick off the program, and we checked on Local Music News. It was a fun two hours, and a bright and upbeat way to kick off the “Backyard Rocker” guest slate for 2006!

Here is this week’s playlist:

HOUR ONE:

GROOVE JUNKIES – “Steelers Fight Song”
NORMAN NARDINI – “Heat Of The Night”
CRYSTAL CAMERON – “My All T You”
V.I.H. BLUES BAND – “Kiss the Blues Goodbye”
CRYSTAL CAMERON – “Why Do I Still Fall”
K8 – “Orion”
CRYSTAL CAMERON – “Forever”
RHYNE McCORMICK – “How Long”

HOUR TWO:

SPOONCHATTER – “11:00 PM”
CRYSTAL CAMERON – “So Real”
FELIX & THE HURRICANES – “Icy You”
CRYSTAL CAMERON – “Tonight I Feel”
FUSE – “Diamondback” (1997, Local Music Flashback)
CRYSTAL CAMERON – “It’s Not About Luck”
CRYSTAL CAMERON – “Stand”

Next Sunday night, via phone, our guests will be the Victory In Heaven Blues Band. V.I.H. recently released their new acoustic studio album, called V.I.H. IV…The Mission Continues. We’ll discuss the new album with the group, and feature a number of tunes from it. We’ll also update Local Music News, and review Red Room’s self-titled debut CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner!” V.I.H. is in the spotlight, next Sunday night on the “Backyard Rocker!”

In Local Music News…

Some personnel changes for Lewistown rockers Wiskerbisket to begin the New Year. Bassist Mike Swartz and guitarist/singer John Everly left the band at the end of the year to devote more attention to their families. Jon Benevento will take over all guitar duties in the group, and taking over bass duties is Milhouse, who leaves the bass player position in Love Stomp to move to Wiskerbisket.

A change for western PA rockers Third Standard also, as the group has parted ways with drummer Steve Holtz. Steve has been replaced by his predecessor in the group, Manny Barbezzini. Steve is joining up with former members of Paco's Virus to form a new band, Hello Vixen, which will debut on area stages later this year.

Clearfield roots/Americana trio Blind Jonny Death has announced that they will undergo a name change, citing copyright issues. The group is accepting suggestions for a new name, and will award a copy of their new CD, $50 and other prizes if they use your name suggestion. If you have an idea for a new name for Blind Jonny Death, either visit their website, www.blindjonnydeath.com, or Rockpage, www.rockpage.net, for details.

Good news for Vs. the Earth; one of their songs, “Still Remember You,” was selected as one of the top five songs of the year in a song contest sponsored by VH1. The song was selected out of thousands of entries.

Local music website Rockpage is presenting another benefit jam night. The third annual Rockpage Benefit Jam will take place on Thursday evening, January 26, at Peter C’s in Altoona, and will start at 8 PM. The evening will feature performances from the bands The Vengeance of Carl Lee, One Gun Salute, The Flame Sky and The Grimm, followed by a jam session featuring Rockpage member musicians. Donation will be $3, with proceeds benefiting a local charity.

The Underground TV kicked off their second season this past weekend. The show now airs twice every week, on two stations: Saturdays at 6 PM on WWCP Fox 8, and early Monday mornings at 1 AM on WATM ABC 23.
