Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the May 11 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7.

Thanks to Randy, Randy and Paul of Way Down East (the fourth member, Charlie, took ill en route and had to return home and miss the appearance) for making the roadtrip in to enlighten central PA on the band, their music, live show and more. We heard numerous tracks from Way down East’s just-released debut CD, “Modern Day Outlaws,” and several lucky listeners won CD’s and T-shirts. We also debuted new music from The Marauders (from their new CD, “Alibi,” released this past week); and we dug into the archives to flash back to 1997 and Toddo’s “’56 T-Bird” (celebrating singer Greg Burley’s and guitarist Ryan Clark’s new acoustic project, Rock’n’Rye, which debuted this past weekend). It was again a rocking, fun two hours!

This week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

BUSTED MONKEY – “I Know (What Love Can Do)”
BLEECH – “Faded Memories”
AXUM – “The Point”
WISKERBISKET – “Skank”
WAY DOWN EAST – “Modern Day Outlaws”
THE MARAUDERS – “Late Night Livin’”
WAY DOWN EAST – “Magnum Is My Name”
LOST LEDNY – “Farewell”
WAY DOWN EAST – “ZZ Deathbed”
FELIX & THE HURRICANES – “Just Had To Play The Blues”

HOUR TWO:

ROADKILL – “Lost In The Woods”
HALESTORM – “The Eye”
WAY DOWN EAST – “It Starts Today”
TODDO – “’56 T-Bird” (Local Music Flashback, 1997)
WAY DOWN EAST – “Drunk with Hank”
BACKSTREET LAW – “Stages”
WAY DOWN EAST – “One Eyed King”
CHOKING FAITH – “Overdosed”
WAY DOWN EAST – “Bang Your Head To This”

This Sunday night, May 18, our in-studio guests will be Lost Ledny. We will get better acquainted with this hard-rocking Johnstown foursome, and hear tracks from their self-titled debut CD, released last fall. Lost Ledny visits the "Backyard Rocker," this Sunday night!

Other forthcoming guests and specials include:

MAY 25 – Memorial Day Special
JUNE 1 – Driven
JUNE 8 - Tangerine
JUNE 15 – Fathers & Sons/Daughters of Local Music Special
JUNE 22 - Blair County Collective
JUNE 29 - Nevermoure
JULY 6 - Electric Candy Shop
JULY 13 - Sound Driven
JULY 20 – Deviance
JULY 27 – Cloud Party
AUG. 3 – Seventh Hour
AUG. 17 - Gemstone
SEPT. 7 - Wiskerbisket
OCT. 26 - Inversion
DEC. 7 - Flord (tentative)

As listed above, the “Backyard Rocker” Memorial Day Special happens on May 25, as we reflect back on past area bands and artists. One of our most popular editions of the “Backyard Rocker” every year, we’ll hear from local and regional bands that came and went on the area music scene, plus commemorate the area musicians we have lost along the way. As always, we again welcome any archive recordings or footage of area bands for the show. If you have a tape, album, 45 rpm single, or any other recording of a former area band or artist you would like to have on the program, feel free to drop it off at the Q94 offices during business hours, or contact me at (814) 944-9420, toll free 1-877-947-6257, or email me at profjp@wbxq.com.

For regular updates on what is happening on the area music scene, pay a visit to Rockpage (www.rockpage.org). Rockpage features band links, a message board, "Backyard Rocker" updates, the online 'zine publication "The Final Cut," and other local music scene information.

Bands and artists interested in having music aired on "The Backyard Rocker" are invited to send their broadcast-quality recordings to: WBXQ Radio, 4000 5th Avenue, Altoona, PA 16602; ATTN: Jim Price. Or drop the recordings off at the station during regular business hours, Monday-Friday 9 AM - 5 PM.
