Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the April 9 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7.

Thanks to our guests, Philadelphia’s Zelazowa, for taking a few moments during their travels to stop by and enlighten area listeners about their music, career and mission. We got acquainted with the band members, heard tracks from their full-length debut CD Rest Easy, and the group brought acoustic instruments and performed two songs live as well. Thanks also to our friend, Tina Marie, from HBN Radio’s “Musician Showcase” program in Harrisburg for hooking us up!

Along the way, we updated Local Music News, and we reviewed 4 Days Dirty’s debut CD, Raise Your Hand…If You Feel Like Dying, in “The Professor’s CD Corner.” (The review can be viewed on Q94's website, www.wbxq.com, in the "Backyard Rocker" section of the message board area.) We also debuted a new song from Kiwi.

Here is this week’s playlist:

HOUR ONE:

KAIROS – “Digging Through Sand”
THE FLAME SKY – “Only In Your Head”
ZELAZOWA – “Propeller”
KIWI – “Fly Into the Night”
ZELAZOWA – “1,000 Smiles” (performed live on the air)
ANYTHING JANE – “Novocain”
GRADE E – “Lucy”
ZELAZOWA – “Entry #1”

HOUR TWO:

CONDITION K – “On A Sunday”
ZELAZOWA – “Maniacal Man”
4 DAYS DIRTY – “Disguise”
ZELAZOWA – “Swooner”
HOUSE OF CAIN – “Emissary”
ZELAZOWA – “I Got My Gun” (performed live on the air)
ZELAZOWA – “Dandelions”

Next Sunday night, our guest will be Northern Cambria-based singer, songwriter and guitarist Ken Gray. Formerly half of the acoustic duo Falling Higher, and now a member of the new band Act 64, Ken Gray has been writing and recording song material; we’ll hear Ken’s songs, both recorded and performed live on the air! Ken Gray visits the “Backyard Rocker,” next Sunday night!

Forthcoming guests and specials include:

APR. 23 – Silver Sunday
APR. 30 – Blue Number Nine
MAY 7 – Sherri Mullen
MAY 21 – White Witch
MAY 28 – Memorial Day Special
JUNE 4 – Too Many Empty
JUNE 11 – Solegion
JUNE 18 – Fathers & Sons/Daughters of Local Music Special (w/Greg & Dustin Burley)
JUNE 25 – Spitshine
JULY 2 – Millennium Music Conference Recap Special

For the second year, the “Backyard Rocker” is happy to announce its partnership with “The Underground TV,” the new local/regional music television show now airing twice weekly, on WWCP-TV Fox 8 Saturday evenings at 6 PM, and Monday mornings at 1 AM on WATM ABC 23. Check out “The Underground” as it features different unsigned local and regional bands every week; and watch for “Backyard Rocker” updates on the show each week as well!

For regular updates on what is happening on the area music scene, pay a visit to Rockpage (www.rockpage.net). Rockpage features band links, a message board, "Backyard Rocker" updates, the online 'zine publication "The Final Cut," and other local music scene information.

Bands and artists interested in having music aired on "The Backyard Rocker" are invited to send their broadcast-quality recordings to: WBXQ Radio, 4000 5th Avenue, Altoona, PA 16602; ATTN: Jim Price. Or drop the recordings off at the station during regular business hours, Monday-Friday 9 AM - 5 PM.

Q94’s “Backyard Rocker” has been introducing listeners to the region’s best musical talent for over seven years, and we plan to do it for many more. Help guarantee the program’s future, and consider becoming an advertising sponsor of the “Backyard Rocker.” If your business involves music, a “Backyard Rocker” sponsorship can get your message in front of listeners interested in music. In Local Music News...

Felix & the Hurricanes are returning to the Blues Society of Western Pennsylvania's International Blues Challenge. The Hurricanes will be heading to Pittsburgh on April 22 to play at the Blues Challenge qualifier event at Maxie's Place. The group is looking for any local fans who want to go over and cheer them on; any interested fans can contact the Hurricanes at their shows, or log onto the website www.felixandthehurricanes.com for more information.

One of the state's most popular party bands is back onstage after a 16 month layoff. Juiced has recently returned to action as a four-piece, featuring singer Russ Weikel, guitarist Norm Marks, bassist Peggy Hood and drummer Darrell Hetrick. The group's former keyboard player, Doug Buch, left the group to pursue a different career direction away from music. Juiced has posted some original songs on their new website on Myspace.com; the four tunes were recorded in Doug Buch's home studio during the group's hiatus in the past year.

A transformation for the band formerly known as Love Stomp. After the group parted ways with singer Amy K in March, guitarist Willy G. has united with some former members of the band RU21 to form the group Stomp'd.

Harrisburg's The April Skies are nearly done recording their new CD. The new disc should feature at least 7 or 8 new songs. The group is planning to play a number of shows during May to promote the disc, as well as a number of outdoor shows and festivals over the summer.
