Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the December 16 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBXQ 94.3. The show is brought to you by The Altoona Curve (www.altoonacurve.com), “Everybody’s Hometown Team!”

Snow, sleet and freezing rain won’t stop Q94’s “Backyard Rocker” from its appointed rounds, but it can throw a monkey wrench into our guests’ travel plans. Our guest was to be Gordon Tittsworth from York/Baltimore-based progressive hard rockers Images Of Eden (www.imagesofeden.com), but the winter storm made travel conditions too risky for Gordon to do the three-hour roadtrip, so we both agreed to postpone his appearance until January 20. But we still featured songs from Images Of Eden, as well as numerous other local and regional bands and artists. We debuted new songs from Death Dealer, Crow In The Snow, Dollarz-n-Sense and Headplug, plus featured a new Christmas song from Bad Daze guitarist Kenny Murdick. We also updated Local Music News, and reviewed Dashboard Mary’s debut CD, Somebody’s In Here, in “The Professor’s CD Corner.” (The review can be read in the “Backyard Rocker” section of the message board area on Q94’s website, www.wbxq.com.)

Here is this week’s playlist:

HOUR ONE:

THE GRIMM – “My God, It’s Full of Stars”
LORDS-A-LEAPING – “The Bells of Christmas”
IMAGES OF EDEN – “Ascension/Kaleidoscope”
DEJA VUDOO – “Making Angels Cry”
DEATH DEALER – “Final Death”
HI-TYDE – “Bad Night”
IMAGES OF EDEN – “Beyond the Horizon”
SPIRIT LOST – “Misery”
CROW IN THE SNOW – “Standoff”

HOUR TWO:

FLIGHT 19 – “Migraine”
KENNY MURDICK – “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen”
IMAGES OF EDEN – “Aladdin”
DASHBOARD MARY – “Nothin’ But Love”
DOLLARZ-N-SENSE – “Unsung Hero”
MY TURNING POINT – “Stop”
IMAGES OF EDEN – “To Live Another Day”
THE FLAME SKY – “Alright”
HEADPLUG – “Farewell (The Only Way to Zen)”

Next Sunday night, it’s our annual Christmas Special! We’ll feature two hours of Christmas and holiday music from local and regional bands and artists. We’ll hear area musicians’ renditions of time-honored Christmas classics, as well as their original Christmas compositions! So break out the eggnog and cookies, kick back in the easy chair next to the fireplace, and enjoy the Christmas Special edition of the “Backyard Rocker,” next Sunday night!

Forthcoming guests and specials include:

In Local Music News…

A member of local 80’s hair-band tribute rockers Hair Force One didn’t just pay homage to the 80’s in the past few days, he’s been on tour with one of that decade’s biggest names. Keyboard player Michael Troy, who goes by the name Roman in Hair Force One, just finished playing some South American and Mexican tour dates as part of legendary Swedish guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen’s touring band.

Another Pennsylvania musician who has been playing out of country recently is Pittsburgh R&B favorite Billy Price. The Billy Price Band recently returned from playing a series of dates in France opening for the Fred Chapellier Band. Billy Price appears on Chapellier’s new Roy Buchanan tribute album, Fred Chapellier & Friends; A Tribute to Roy Buchanan. Billy sang with Buchanan for a few years during the 70’s. According to Billy’s online newsletter, he and Chapellier had such a good time performing together, that he may be headed back to France in the spring to play some more shows; and that he and Chapellier might even do an album together.

Some band personnel moves to report. Altoona heavy rockers FedUp have a new bass player, as Roman Dell replaces Don Singer.

Local lady rockers Kitty Whip are again seeking a new drummer, male or female.

Punxsutawney-based lady rocker Just Megan has completed work on her sophomore CD, called I Get What I Want, which should be released shortly. Several songs from the CD can be heard on Just Megan’s Myspace website, www.myspace.com/justmegan.
