Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the July 18 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7.

The program took a decidedly blues-leaning direction this week with the presence of our guests, Gypsy, Brian and Mark of State College-based blues band Gypsy & the Crazymoon. We learned about Gypsy & the Crazymoon and their blend of blues, rock and R&B; and we heard tracks from the group’s debut CD, “Blues All Day.” The group also brought some instruments along and performed three songs live on the air for us. In addition, we checked on local music news, and debuted new tunes from Herbie, Alan Pollard and Milkshake Jones.

This week’s playlist:

HOUR ONE:

JOHN CHARNEY & WHITE MOJO – “Got My Mojo Workin’”
V.I.H. BLUES BAND – “Every Day Will Be Like Sunday”
GYPSY & THE CRAZYMOON – “Chain Of Fools”
CHRIS BELL & 100% BLUES – “Feels Like Rain”
GYPSY & THE CRAZYMOON – “Never Quite Like This” (performed live on air)
BACKDRAFT – “3-Hour Trip”
GYPSY & THE CRAZYMOON – “Blues All Day”
J.D. STRUM – “It’s All Good”
HERBIE – “Fudge”

HOUR TWO:

FELIX & THE HURRICANES – “Little Ears”
THE FLAME SKY – “So Much Left Undone”
GYPSY & THE CRAZYMOON – “All Out Of Lies” (performed live on air)
GYPSY & THE CRAZYMOON – “Checkin’ On My Baby”
ALAN POLLARD – “See It For What It Is”
GYPSY & THE CRAZYMOON – “Honey Bee” (performed live on air)
GYPSY & THE CRAZYMOON – “Come On In My Kitchen”
MILKSHAKE JONES – “Glow”
GYPSY & THE CRAZYMOON – “You Only Want Me When You Want Me”

This Sunday night, it’s the first ever “Backyard Rocker” Fast Forward Special. The premise is similar to Q94’s Fast Forward Weekend – we’ll feature a song from early in the career of an area musician or band, and follow it up with a more recent song from the same musician/band! The results should be entertaining, as we hear musicians as they sounded ‘back then’ and now! Held in conjunction with Q94’s Fast Forward Weekend, check out the Fast Forward Special, this Sunday night on the “Backyard Rocker!”

Other forthcoming guests and specials include:

AUG. 1 – Ever Since Yesterday
AUG. 8 – Cover Song Special
AUG. 15 – Soundrive
AUG. 22 – Guitar Heroes of Local Rock Special
SEPT. 12 – Vs. The Earth
SEPT. 19 – White Witch
OCT. 3 – Acoustic Jam Special
NOV. 7 – Michael Reich
DEC. 12 – Fat Vinny & the Wiseguys

In local music news…

The Pottsville-based rock band Seventh Hour has announced that after four years and two studio CD’s, they are disbanding. The split is a friendly one, with the four band members venturing forward with new projects. Guitarist Jim Munster and singer Jay Knorr are continuing with an acoustic project, appropriately called After Hours. Drummer Ed Burke is currently auditioning with several bands, and bassist Jeff Sallada is continuing with a non-musical career. We wish all the band members the best of luck.

Two new bands will debut this coming Saturday in the Altoona area, Breed and Revolutionary Front. Revolutionary Front features former members of Altoona heavy rockers Dysfunktion.

Another new band soon debuting is Homer’s Army. This new band out of Northern Cambria area features four local music veterans whose collective careers span 119 years in the music business. Tim Homerski plays guitar, keys, flute; Keith Homerski plays guitar, keys, bass and mandolin; John Homerski, Jr. plays drums and percussion, and John Baker plays bass, 6- and 12-string acoustic guitar. All four members sing. Watch for a wide musical variety from Homer’s Army, spanning classic rock, country, funk, original songs and more.

And musicians and singers are being sought for an upcoming production of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, taking place in October at Allegheny Highlands Regional Theatre at Cresson Lake. Auditions for the production will take place on July 30th and 31st; to set up an appointment for an audition, call (814) 472-4333.
