Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the August 8 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7.

In conjunction with Q94’s weekend theme, the “Classic Cover Weekend,” this edition of the “Backyard Rocker” was the Cover Song Special. For two hours, we heard area bands and artists interpret tunes from a wide variety of names. We heard some very interesting reads on some familiar favorites; such as Stronghold’s classic metal reworking of Abba’s 1974 hit “S.O.S.,” Acid Reflux’s live acoustic rendering of Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick In The Wall/Goodbye Cruel World,” Deviance’s heavy-handed treatment of INXS, acoustic and metallic takes on Madonna courtesy of J.D. Strum and Backstreet Law respectively, and more.

Here is this week’s playlist (including the artist who originally wrote/popularized the song):

HOUR ONE:

FAT VINNY & THE WISEGUYS – “Folsom Prison Blues” (Johnny Cash)
GYPSY & THE CRAZYMOON – “Chain of Fools” (Aretha Franklin)
MIKE SWAVELY & THE CHROME MAGNATONES – “Ghost Riders in the Sky” (written by Stan Jones, covered by many artists)
V.I.H. – “Can’t Judge A Book By Lookin’ At the Cover” (Willie Dixon)
STRONGHOLD – “S.O.S.” (Abba)
DOFKA – “N.I.B.” (Black Sabbath)
EMILY’S TOYBOX – “We Got the Beat” (The GoGo’s)
THE BADLEES – “The Night They Drove Dixie Down” (The Band/Joan Baez)
STEVE SUMMERHILL – “Pinball Wizard” (The Who)
JOHN BAKER & SHERRY LENDER – “Closer to Fine” (Indigo Girls)
ACID REFLUX – “Another Brick In The Wall/Goodbye Cruel World” (performed live on the air 8/10/03) (Pink Floyd)

HOUR TWO:

THE FLAME SKY – “Incident at Neshabur” (Santana)
J.D. STRUM – “Borderline” (Madonna)
BACKSTREET LAW – “Like A Virgin” (Madonna)
WHITE WITCH – “No More Mr. Nice Guy” (Alice Cooper)
DEVIANCE – “Devil Inside” (INXS)
WISKERBISKET – “Be My Lover” (La Bouche)
NO REFILL – “Stand Up for Your Rights” (Bob Marley)
FELIX & THE HURRICANES – “Green Grass & High Tides” (The Outlaws)

This Sunday night, Cambria/Indiana County experimental rockers Soundrive return to the show. With Velvet Underground as their reference point, Soundrive blends melodies, 60’s-styled psychedelic flavors and more into a unique sound. We’ll hear new recordings the group has created since their last visit, and get updated by the band members about the group’s career and future plans. Soundrive returns, this Sunday night on the “Backyard Rocker!”

Other forthcoming guests and specials include:

AUG. 22 – Guitar Heroes of Local Rock Special
SEPT. 12 – Vs. The Earth
SEPT. 19 – White Witch
OCT. 3 – Acoustic Jam Special
OCT. 10 – Herbie
NOV. 7 – Michael Reich
DEC. 12 – Fat Vinny & the Wiseguys
