Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the August 15 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7.

Thanks to our guests, Soundrive, for a very interesting two hours as this week’s guests. We updated Soundrive’s musical journey, as they explore rock’s psychedelic and spacey terrains, using influences as the Velvet Underground, early Pink Floyd, David Bowie, Donovan, Spacehog and Radiohead as their map. We heard several new studio songs from the group, and the group brought instruments and gear and performed several songs live on the air for us as well.

In addition, we spoke with Mickey Luckenbaugh, the organizer of the 14th annual “End Of Summer Jam” benefit for Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh; this year’s show takes place next weekend, Aug. 21-22, at the Cresson Sportsmen’s Club. On the “Professor’s CD Corner,” we explored Ted McCloskey’s new CD, “Sixty Cycle Hum,” and featured a song from it. We checked on local music news, and debuted new music from Homer’s Army, Matt Wagner Band and Norman Nardini. Needless to say, a busy week!

Here is this week’s playlist:

HOUR ONE:

HOMER’S ARMY – “Josie”
FELIX & THE HURRICANES – “Issues”
SOUNDRIVE – “Jet Plane”
WAY DOWN EAST – “Lately”
SOUNDRIVE – “Me Mr. Time”
MATT WAGNER BAND – “Cycle”
SOUNDRIVE – “Sweet Iris Come Down” (performed live on air)

HOUR TWO:

NORMAN NARDINI – “High Times”
SOUNDRIVE – “Insert a Face”
TED McCLOSKEY – “Looking Good in the Coffin”
SOUNDRIVE – “Carpe Diem” (performed live on air)
ISSUES – “Still the Rain”
HERBIE – “Fudge”
SOUNDRIVE – “Blind” (performed live on air)

This Sunday night, we salute area masters of the six-strings on the “Guitar Heroes of Local Rock Special!” We’ll put the spotlight on some of the hottest shredders and guitar players on the area and state music scene. In conjunction with Q94's’ “Guitar Hero Weekend,” it’s the “Guitar Heroes of Local Rock Special,” this Sunday night on the “Backyard Rocker!”

Other forthcoming guests and specials include:

SEPT. 12 – Vs. The Earth
SEPT. 19 – White Witch
OCT. 3 – Acoustic Jam Special
OCT. 10 – Herbie
OCT. 31 – Halloween Special

In local music news…

Another area musician's creations land on national television. Altoona native Ted McCloskey composed the soundtrack for the 90-minute PBS documentary, "The Grange Fair: An American Tradition," which aired on public television stations this past Monday night. Included in the soundtrack was "I'm Walking Back Home to Me", a duet Ted performed with singer/songwriter Dawn Kinnard. A statewide release for the soundtrack is scheduled for early fall, followed by a national release.

In band personnel news, Johnstown heavy rockers Deviance are again searching for a lead singer, after parting ways with vocalist Joe Moore. Joe only recently joined the band as a replacement for Eric Voeghtly. Eric has since reunited with his band prior to Deviance, Stone Krow.

Several drummer developments: A change behind the drum kit for Mount Union 80's rockers Scream, as Greg Reigle replaces Mike Dooley. And The Amplified Heet has announced the addition of their new drummer, Robert Pfister.
