Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the September 5 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7.

This week, we kicked things off with a special announcement regarding a new partnership between the “Backyard Rocker” and a new local music television show hitting the airwaves this fall. “The Underground” is a new half-hour program that will feature local and regional bands every week. The show, the brainchild of former Dragon Fire guitarist Chris Peters, debuts on WWCP-TV Fox 8 on Saturday, October 9 at 6 PM.

In addition to the announcement, we again debuted plenty of new music on this week’s program, including new songs from Bret Alexander, Backdraft, False Icons, Project Twelve(34), K8, Ted McCloskey, The Brainbell Janglers, This Great Decay, The Useless Underground, Malice 420, Shirl and Searching for Gladys. We checked on local music news, heard 1999 music from Frosto Me Osto in a “Local Music Flashback,” and featured not one, but two editions of the “Professor’s CD Corner,” taking detailed looks at Project Twelve(34)’s “Small Eternity” and Deviance’s “Contagion” CD’s. Once again, a very busy week!

This week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

This Sunday night on the program, it’s back to in-studio guests, as we’ll be joined by the band formerly known as Nevermoure, Vs. the Earth. We’ll get updated on the latest Vs. the Earth happenings, hear lots of tunes from the group, and hopefully singer Adam doesn’t break any equipment this time! Vs. the Earth visits the “Backyard Rocker,” this Sunday night!

In local music news…

Back by popular demand, The Front is doing it again. Popular 80’s Altoona-based rock band The Front is reuniting for another benefit show. The show will take place on Saturday evening, October 16, at the Bavarian Hall in Altoona. Partial proceeds from the concert will benefit the Make A Wish Foundation of Western PA. Tickets will go on sale soon, and will cost $10 in advance, $15 at the door.

For the third anniversary of 9/11, the Blair County Community Action Agency is presenting their third annual Unity Day remembrance this Saturday, Sept. 11, at downtown Altoona’s Heritage Plaza. Memorial services and remembrances will begin at 8:45 AM, followed by lunch at 11:30 AM, and the Unity Concert starting at 6 PM. The concert will feature performances and appearances by Denny Huber, Signs’N'Motion, Typhani Russo, Paige Lightner, Elaini Arthur, Henry Hansard, Megan Ritchey and the band Big Mac N’Fries. Admission to the Unity Day events is free.

Rolling Stones tribute band Jumpin’ Jack Flash frontman Skip Stone, is getting his ya-ya’s out in a new way. Skip has teamed with guitarist and singer Andy Rhody in a new project called The Britz. Skip and Andy perform acoustic and electric music with backing tracks recorded in Andy’s studio. According to Andy, there’s plenty of Stones tunes in their performance. The pair performed this past Friday night at a Hollidaysburg venue.

Yet another band is breaking up…After nine years, Huntingdon County rockers Blackout are going their separate ways, with new projects expected to surface from the ashes.

In case you missed it, The Clarks appeared on national television last Tuesday night, performing on The Late Show with David Letterman on CBS.
