Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the September 12 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7.

It was a fun two hours as we were joined in the studio by the members of the band formerly known as Nevermoure, now called Vs. the Earth. We got caught up on all the latest Vs. the Earth happenings, including the reason for the name change, the group’s recording plans, their busy live schedule, work ethic and more. We congratulated drummer Shawn Hocherl on his recent knot-tying with better half Melissa. Singer Adam Marino brought guitar along and performed a song live on the air for us as well. Along the way, we checked on local music news, and debuted new songs from Herbie, Norman Nardini and Josa Step.

Here is this week’s playlist:

HOUR ONE:

KATSU – “Walkaway”
THE RUDYS – “My Backyard”
VS. THE EARTH – “Psycho”
HERBIE – “Cool Ethan”
VS. THE EARTH – “She Rocks Me”
THIRD STANDARD – “14 Days in a Bender”
VS. THE EARTH – “Carolina Sky”
BACKSTREET LAW – “Right Here Right Now”
NORMAN NARDINI – “Can’t Kill Love with a Gun”

HOUR TWO:

FELIX & THE HURRICANES w/DAN MYERS II – “Lady Liberty”
VS. THE EARTH – “Still Remember You (Higher)”
VS. THE EARTH – “The American Teenage Anthem”
SPITSHINE – “Even More”
VS. THE EARTH – “Forever Yours” (performed live on air)
VS. THE EARTH – “Realize”
JOSA STEP – “Mention”
VS. THE EARTH – “Friend Zone”

Originally, the band White Witch were to be our guests this Sunday night. But because of complications due to Hurricane Frances (one of the band members lives in Florida, and is cleaning up property damage from the hurricane), the group requested postponing their appearance until November. So instead, we’ll be debuting more new local and regional music we’ve received over the past several weeks, checking local music news and presenting the Professor’s CD Corner. So be sure to catch all the excitement this Sunday night on the “Backyard Rocker!”

Other forthcoming guests and specials include:

SEPT. 26 – “The Underground” Preview Special
OCT. 3 – Acoustic Jam Special
OCT. 10 – Herbie
OCT. 24 – Project Twelve (34)
OCT. 31 – Halloween Special
NOV. 7 – Michael Reich
NOV. 14 – Matt Wagner
NOV. 28 – White Witch
DEC. 5 – Josa Step
DEC. 12 – Fat Vinny & the Wiseguys
DEC. 19 – Christmas Special
DEC. 26 – Year in Review Special
JAN. 9 – In
APR. 10 – A Broken Union

In local music news…

RetroActive's retirement didn't last long. Cambria County 80's party band RetroActive has reformed with a new singer. Guitarist John Solinski, bassist Kenny Karlheim, keyboard player/guitarist Keith Little and drummer Red Solinski have united with Johnstown-based singer Greg Cveykus. Greg previously sang with Itch, Semichrome, Trick Bag Soul and Fury. Look for the reformed RetroActive's return to stage action soon.

Two area bands will take part in a benefit show next Saturday night, Sept. 18 in Gallitzin. Felix & the Hurricanes and Totem, along with deejay Sean Lance, will provide entertainment during the benefit for Heather “Heeter” Mallory, taking place next Saturday night from 4 to 11 PM at the Oriental Ballroom in Gallitzin. Heather, daughter of Legends of the Lost & Found guitarist John Mallory, was seriously injured in a recent motor vehicle accident. Donation for the benefit is $20; food and refreshments will be available. Those attending must be 21 or older.

Bloomsburg’s Jeremy DePrisco is involved in a new project that has just issued a CD. Bloomsburg to Bangladesh finds Jeremy exploring Asian musical styles with a tabla player named Bulu. The pair’s self-titled CD has been issued on Blue Buddha Records; several CD release events took in the Bloomsburg area this past weekend.

Pittsburgh’s Tangerine is releasing a brand new album, called “Songs for the Now and Others Forever.” Their official CD-release event takes place on Sept. 24 in Pittsburgh.
